Parker asks Ryan to tell her about Carroll's accomplices, starting with Raines. Parker doesn't want to use the word "cult," then brings up the letter Carroll sent to Claire, which mentioned Ryan and Claire's relationship. Riley chooses that moment to stick his head in and say they have more dead bodies.
It's the sorority house, which is a corn syrup-soaked mess. There are butchered girls everywhere, including the original one who let Raines in, who's hung up on a bookshelf with her eyes cut out. And Raines didn't bother to conceal his identity; he left bloody fingerprints everywhere. With that as the gory backdrop, Ryan goes on about how this looks like the work of an acolyte, but Parker doesn't like that word, as it implies cult. Riley asks why the acolytes would kidnap Joey, and Ryan says it's a biblical thing -- something to be worshiped or sacrificed. They all agree that Carroll knows where Joey is, and he won't tell the FBI, but he might tell Claire. Ryan doesn't think so.
Claire goes to the jail and asks Ryan what she should say to Carroll. He tells her to try and engage Carroll's paternal instincts about Joey. Sure, I'm so confident he has those. As Claire leaves the room, she briefly touches Ryan's back, which sends him into the past.
2004. Claire is just moving into her new house, and Ryan is testifying at Carroll's trial. She says she can't go to court anymore, and doesn't want to see Carroll ever again. Ryan says she doesn't have to. Liar!
Carroll sits in an interview room, handcuffed. A guard brings Claire in. Carroll starts rambling about how she's so pretty she makes his hands shake, and Claire cuts through all his romantic bullshit and demands to know where Joey is. Carroll starts reminiscing about a vacation they took to Antigua and all the naked times. Claire interrupts to talk about how smart Joey is, but stops when Carroll says how betrayed she must feel. ...Yes? Maybe she's just glad she still has her eyes.
Claire asks if Joey is in danger, and begs Carroll not to hurt him. Carroll wants answers to his questions in the letter before he'll tell her anything about Joey. She confesses that she and Ryan had a two-month affair. In the room where the FBI agents are monitoring the conversation, Ryan looks like he's pooping. Carroll asks if the sex was good. Ryan looks like he's going to hurl. Claire says it was. He demands an answer to his last question, which apparently was if she loved Ryan? She says she doesn't know, that he destroyed her. And then she goes berserk, slapping Carroll and demanding to know where Joey is. He grabs her by the throat (with his injured hand) and the agents and guards rush in to pull her away.
