A Descent into the Bloody Madhouse

Ryan checks out the bruise on Claire's neck, and tells her he'll call her as soon as he knows anything about Joey.

At the kidnap house, Joey runs up the stairs into a room that has been recreated to look a lot like his room at home. He asks Denise again if he can call his mother, and she has remarkably little patience for a nanny (even though she's fake, she's been doing this for two years) because she grits her teeth when she tells him his mother doesn't want him calling her. Joey asks why his father is such a bad man. Denise sits him down and says Carroll isn't so bad, they just don't understand him.

Flashback. Carroll is reading from his novel, and Denise is there, watching rapturously. Her hair is much longer, and red. He signs her copy for "Emma," and she gushes about how much she loved the book and how awesome he is. He says her compliment made his day, and then he super creepily tucks her hair behind her ear and says, "You have such lovely eyes, Emma. Don't deprive us of them." AAAACK. Emma asks if the main character dies at the end, and he asks what she thinks. She's really excited when she says, "I think she died... In death she found hope."

She's still staring blissfully at him when a woman wearing tight leopard print and with a smoker's voice interrupts -- it's Emma's slutty mom! "So, this is the fella you came to see," Emma's mom says, mentioning how hot Carroll is. Emma, of course, is mortified, but Carroll ignores Slutty Mom and signs the book, "Hopefully yours -- Joe."

Back at the house, Paul asks which room is "ours," meaning his and Jacob's, and Emma says she and Jacob are taking the master bedroom. Paul gets oddly prudish about that being in front of Joey, but Emma says, chillingly, "Don't worry about it." That is totally what she says when she's disemboweling people. "Oh, your lower intestine? That's this thing right here. Don't worry about it." Paul is clearly freaked out.
