Bludgeoning You With Poe, Forever and Ever, Amen

Now it's nighttime at the farmhouse. The SWAT team is in position. Emma is still stalking around staring meaningfully at everyone when the phone rings. She leaves to answer it. When she comes back, she says everything's cool and they just need to sit tight a little longer. Paul isn't satisfied, but Emma snaps at him to relax and have a little faith. She goes upstairs to check on Joey. Ryan sardonically tells Paul, yeah, the house is surrounded by cops and the roads are all closed, but what he really needs to do is have faith. Paul belts Ryan across the face and grabs the gun from Jacob. Ryan spits out a mouthful of blood, but otherwise does not look affected. Compared to the magnets effing up his pacemaker, he seems to think this is just peachy.

Upstairs, Emma wakes Joey up and hustles him out of the room.

Claire is sitting on a couch, toweling the water out of her hair. That was polite of him. You don't want your hostages catching cold. She apologizes for running and asks why she can't go home if Joey's not coming here. Charlie says that wasn't the plan. She asks what the plan was and he says there are things he can't tell her, like who Roderick is. But Claire observes that it must be a pseudonym, because Roderick is the main character in The Fall of the House of Usher. Charlie says he's a friend of Carroll's. Claire asks why she listens to Carroll and what's going on. Charlie says Carroll is teaching him to feel his life. Ick.

Flashback to Charlie visiting the prison and filling Carroll in on every single thing Claire did in the previous week. Carroll looks absolutely disgusted that she went to a Celine Dion concert. Charlie says she was wearing a little black dress and looked great, and he actually smiles for the first time. Charlie apologizes for his inappropriate thoughts, but Carroll says it's easy to fall for Claire. Charlie tells Carroll he can trust him.

Present. Charlie kisses Claire and she shoves him away. He immediately yells that he shouldn't have done that, that it was impure and starts bashing his head against the wall. Seriously, Claire, THIS is the guy you got in the car with.

Farmhouse. AGAIN. Paul is worried about what's taking Emma so long and sends Jacob upstairs after her. Ryan uses the knife he grabbed earlier to cut through the ropes binding his hands. Jacob comes running downstairs and says Emma and Joey are gone. Ryan bursts out of his chair, bashes Paul in the face and stabs him. When Jacob rushes over to help, Ryan punches him. Ryan pulls Megan up, rips the tape off her mouth and tells her to run for the street. Outside, a cop scoops her up. Paul, lying on the floor and bleeding, grunts that Megan's getting away, but when Jacob opens the front door to follow, half a dozen red tracers appear on him. He slams the door and says, "We're in trouble."
