Parker says she understands and compliments the murals at Emma's house. She says she's a very talented artist and starts trying to draw her out by saying all the faces in the paintings resemble her mother. Emma asks if that's negotiator talk and tells Parker that she killed her mother. Good to have that on tape, dummy. Parker replies that she knows and says, "Most of us only dream about doing it." Whoa. Mike looks completely freaked as Parker goes on about how Emma must miss her mother and she says she misses hers.
Emma hangs up and Jacob reassures her that it's okay. Emma coldly says she's fine and goes to check her e-mail. Ryan clues in to the relationship between Jacob and Emma, and says, "Wait, you two aren't gay?" Jacob grits through his teeth, "I'm not gay." Ryan asks Paul if he is and Paul just anguishedly tells him to shut up. Megan is staring at Ryan like, stop antagonizing the crazy people.
Mike asks Parker what she was doing and she says the SWAT team is still an hour out, so she was trying to stall. And it was true, what she said about the art. Parker thinks Emma is completely traumatized about killing her mother, so Parker was trying to bring her grief to the surface and make her rethink what she's about to do. Mike says it sounds like Slutty Mom really screwed her up and Parker says hers sure did. "Parental influence defines us."
Flashback to Serenity Hills in Church Rock, Iowa, nine years ago. Parker gets out of her car and the guy Miranda kicked in the face on Sex and the City comes over and smarmily says, "Debra. Look at you. You're all grown up." She greets him as Dale and says she's come to see her family. He asks why she thinks they'd want to see her, after fifteen years and after what she's done.
Flashback in the flashback! It's 1989 now. Parker, as a teenager and wearing her nightgown, walks into a candlelit room where Dale is sitting on the end of the bed, wearing a bathrobe. He pulls her into the room, tells her not to be afraid and then starts putting the moves on her. She's crying, and she slaps his face and runs away into the arms of an older woman.
Back to 2004. Parker walks into a room and greets her parents.
Claire stalks around Charlie's basement and asks if there's any word. Charlie says they were delayed and she asks if the FBI might be causing the delay. He robotically tells her to be patient, that she will be reunited with Joey. Claire asks what happens then and he says he can't tell her. She asks him what he meant when he said he was her follower. Charlie hands over a stack of notebooks, in which he's recorded her every move for two years, and then shows her a video of her and Joey playing in the yard. He says it was important to Carroll that he be able to share her life and when Claire asks why, because her ex-husband tried to kill her, Charlie says flatly that Carroll is "hoping very much that she survives." That's so reassuring. He switches to a video of Claire, in her bed, sleeping, and she asks if Emma knew. He says he knew about her, but she didn't know about him.
