Gerard and his lackey are calling up photos from the parking lot. Gerard focuses on the wrench Kimble holds and identifies it as a construction-lot tool. Kasdan says, "Okay, now you're scaring me." In case all of us out in viewerland don't get it, Gerard is supposed to be REALLY smart. Please keep this point in mind. It may come in handy later. Gerard orders Kasdan to make a list of every building going up in a fifty-mile radius.
Back at Laura's. Kimble watches as she puts her crumbsnatcher to bed. They look all cute and everything. I start having flashbacks of The Exorcist. Linda Blair was just that adorable, too, before she got possessed by THE DEVIL.
Laura confides in Kimble that she's eternally grateful to him for saving her life and allowing her to see her daughter grow up. She tells him that there's stuff about him that doesn't fit -- gee lady, what clued you in, the expert medical knowledge? Anyway, she tells him how he doesn't have calluses and has good manners, and on behalf of construction workers everywhere I give her the big PHTTTTHHBT. She says she knows he is in trouble. Kimble acknowledges she's right. She wants to help. Kimble gets on his big, wooden cross and won't let her. Kimble tells her this is the first time in a long time he just enjoyed himself, and that he wishes "things were different, and that he was different." Laura tells him she doesn't. Honey, when your potential boyfriend is a felon, you really SHOULD wish things were different. Laura says it's time to say good-bye and gets all "flustered" and "cute." Kimble smiles.
Time for the big chase sequences. Gerard starts tracking Kimble's ass across Miami. Back at the construction site, Laura tells Kimble that Rainer's been putting in low-grade steel and fudging the numbers, and that Rainer obviously freaked out because Laura showed up early for inspection. Laura's boss has told her that Rainer pulled scams like this before on a building in San Diego, which buckled, killing six people. Wow. Guess Laura's boss isn't too stand-up a guy if he goes around hiring thugs and conmen. Laura warns Kimble that her boss is calling the DA and maybe he should get the hell out of Dodge. Laura makes a sad face and says she guesses that this means she'll never know what it was that happened to her. Kimble and Laura get in an elevator with, surprise surprise, the thuggish dude that Kimble saw sabotaging the ladder. The guy gets all hysterical when he spots Laura's badge and then hears sirens in the distance. Kimble watches as police cars scream up to the construction site. He watches Gerard's head emerge from a van. Gerard looks up and seems to spot him in the elevator as it descends.
