The Hand Of A Stranger

Driving home, Lt. Bubba treats us to a blipvert from his past, all in black-and-white because black-and-white gets the point that it's past across much better than full color does. Car crashes and goes off the highway -- underwater -- Lt. Bubba stands in front of a grave that reads: "Lenore Gerard Born, November 3, 1966 Died, April 17, 1987, Loving wife & mother, 'She walked in beauty.'" Aside from that quote being adapted from one of my favorite pieces of poetry, I don't get anything out of it. Is she his sister? Former wife? It can't be his mother because she was born in 1966. Does this mean Lt. Bubba's got a vendetta against doctors in general because maybe one couldn't bring Lenore back to life? Or does her death involve Kimble more directly? So many mysteries to solve! More of the blipvert shows Lt. Bubba in the water, diving under. An arm reaches out to him from the car. Lt. Bubba takes off his wedding ring and puts it away in a drawer (okay, it's his wife then). The hand under the water pulls away from him.

Lt. Bubba returns to a nicely decorated house, and a familiar face bounces down the stairs. It's Joss from the decidedly departed and not much missed Time of Your Life, and she's finally wearing a lot less eye make-up. She looks much better now that she's no longer under the influence of the evil Jennifer Love Lackwit. She greets Lt. Bubba with a "hey, baby" as she takes off her glasses and closes her book. See, she's playing the intellectual type. Lt. Bubba kisses her and asks, "Where's Alex?" Joss (because we don't actually learn her real name) sighs and says, "She's fourteen, and it's Friday." "Yeah, so what does that mean?" Lt. Bubba asks, along with the rest of the tuned-in public. "She's locked in her room on the phone." Okay, I didn't have the most booming social life at fourteen, but I certainly didn't spend my weekends on the phone. How boring! Doesn't anyone have séance sleepovers anymore? ["And is this Bubba's daughter with Joss, or Joss's daughter with someone else? Because if his first wife died in 1987…oh, forget it." -- Sars] "You wanna hook up?" Joss murmurs. "Yeah," Lt. Bubba says, sighing. Joss rubs his face against his, "Come on," she says and takes him upstairs. Bamp-chicka-bamp-bamp!
