Shutting Down The Gates

Radcliff house. Dinner is just winding down with Claire's presentation of a yummy tarte tatin. Their guests compliment Claire's homemaking skills. Claire, hiding her distress, excuses herself to get more wine. Dylan follows her and inadvertently makes things worse by apologizing for ever doubting her. "Whatever you're doing is working," he says. "I feel like I've got the old Claire back." Claire dies a little inside.

Police station. Leigh is feeling woozy but presses on with her suspicions about Teresa. Marcus stands up for her and calls Leigh jealous. Ooh, I think you earned yourself a kick in the nuts sometime in the future, judging by the look in Leigh's eyes. Nick interrupts to tell them that Abernathy saw Brett riding his bike on Harrison. Leigh thinks this is weird, because the kids usually ride their bikes elsewhere, so they go check it out.

Karen and Sarah have a stilted conversation about Brett being called in for questioning. Karen tells Sarah everything, minus the werewolf part. She's never been to Brett's games, she works too much, she wants him to be safe after her husband and son were killed in a hunting accident. Sarah is supportive and very nice. If only she were more interesting, she would be awesome.

The Kops go check out Harrison Street. Nick wonders why Abernathy was hanging out where kids ride their bikes. He spies a drop-off receptacle for delivery companies and immediately figures out the whole thing. Quite satisfied with himself, he tells Leigh to re-open The Gates. They take a commercial break to drive over to Abernathy's place, where he's busily polishing an ill-gotten candelabra. Nick knocks on the door, pretending to be from the delivery company. Busted!

Once more at the yogurt shop, Andie meets with Brett. She pulls the bandage off quickly and breaks up with him. He looks heartbroken and disconcertingly adorable. He blames it on Charlie and brings up the kiss. Andie admits that was wrong of her, but that's not with this is about. She doesn't love him like he deserves, she says, and leaves. Somewhere, Lukas is waiting to comfort Brett with open and sleeveless arms.
