Sometime later, Claire and Dylan meet at a lake beyond The Gates. She's in her car, he's in the contractor's truck. Dylan, wisely wearing gloves as if he's had to do this before, begins scattering empty beer cans in the grass. While Claire watches, he proceeds to vamp out and gnaw on the dead man's neck. "It has to look like wolves," Dylan explains after the deed is done. He gets into the trunk of Claire's car for the trip home. "I hope it was worth it," he says. Commercials.
The next day at the police station, Nick and the guard are looking at security footage of the "contractor" driving his truck out of The Gates while the guard naps. The guard sheepishly admits he must have eaten too many of Claire's cookies. Plus, he apparently works a 24-hour shift. The mention of cookies makes Nick suspicious, because everything makes him suspicious. He stops the replay on a shot of Claire looking at the camera as she drives through the gates. This, too, makes him suspicious. He tells Marcus and Leigh to find the D.A., and to draw up a search warrant on this complete lack of evidence.
High school auditorium. Charlie meets Andie on the edge of the stage to help her test the new lie detector. And why Charlie? Andie explains it works best if "the operator and subject don't know each other," so that their emotional responses don't get in the way. She asks him a series of questions that reveals his love of prunes and his obvious attraction to Andie. Andie, flustered, makes a hasty retreat. Boyfriend Brett witnesses them both leaving the auditorium looking upset and confronts Andie at her locker. Andie tries to play it off as nothing, but Brett, equipped with an innate lie detector, sees through her. He punches the locker next to her and runs off. In the boys bathroom, Brett grips the edge of the sink so hard it breaks under his fingers. Outside in the hall, Charlie hears chunks of porcelain hitting the floor and goes in for a look. The sink is decimated. A mirror is broken. Growling comes from one of the stalls. A moment later, Brett walks out of the stall, his shirt half off to show that Taylor Lautner is not the only one with serious wolfy abs. "It was like this when I got here," Brett says. Then he calmly tells Charlie that Andie is his girlfriend and leaves, having metaphorically marked his territory.
