Ricky Packer's mother has a gorgeous home, a best friend who is a priest, and seems to be the nicest lady in the world. She is from Roots. Her conversational style is: Confusing.

Alicia & Coyne: "Do you have any pictures of Ricky as a child, looking super poor? Also, why you haven't seen your son in prison? Do you hate him? Did you do Sybil-type stuff to him, and if so, do you have pictures of that?"
Mom, crying: "No. I am lovely. I would visit if he would let me."
Alicia & Coyne: "Okay, do you have any pictures of him having diseases?"
Mom: "No, you're thinking of my other son. Regardless of whatever documents you've been scouring, you're thinking of Michael. The good one."
Alicia & Coyne: "Was he troubled in school, or bad at it?"
Mom: "No, again you are thinking of Michael. The dumb one. Ricky was a genius."

Alicia & Coyne: "These people are not poor. Look at this picture of him having so many Christmas presents. Maybe we could say he was very spoiled."

Alicia & Coyne: "Hey, Priest guy. What's the real story?"
Father Jim: "His mom is awesome. Michael means well. But Ricky has the devil in him."

Alicia & Coyne: "Okay, can you help us out at all, in any goddamn way? Priest Guy, be of use!"
Father Jim: "Uh, the death penalty is 100% wrong. That's all I can do."
Alicia & Coyne: "Okay, like... How wrong? Would you perjure yourself? We are the worst."

Also, even if they do get Father Jim and the mom and the brother and whoever is amazing, Oprah or Owen's boyfriend Finn that I am still obsessed with, even if they got all those people to perjure themselves in his defense, it still wouldn't be in his defense. It would still be about Alicia's white client. He would still be dying, but like in a week instead of a day. That's what we're looking at.

That's what Coyne is looking at, even. He's doing his Legal Aid job by appealing an execution, but that's the only right thing he's doing, because there is no way that fucker is getting off. And then Alicia is right there in it, being like Oh I'm a mom too and Oh what a cute picture of your serial killer monster baby.
