When One Door Closes...

Lauren goes out to eat with Brody. Lauren immediately tells him about her Paris trip. Brody makes it all about him, and how Lauren won't miss him at all. They flirt that there are a lot of single people in both L.A. and Paris, so they'll both be busy. Brody alienates the Gallic crowd by talking saying that French people are stinky and the girls have hairy armpits. As xenophobic as it sounds, it's actually kind of cute how he says, "Mmm, no. The guys. Stinky." Brody just flat-out asks Lauren if she's really looking for a boyfriend. Lauren doesn't know where that came from. Brody says that he's scared to get into a relationship. Lauren lectures him about relationships, because she's suddenly the expert. Then they stare at each other for seven minutes or so. Seriously, every scene in this show ends with people staring at each other. Am I weird because I don't stare at my conversational partners at the end of our conversations? Then again, we don't have MTV hits with oddly appropriate lyrics playing to underscore the subtext (or text) of our conversations.

Oh, I forgot about Heidi and Spencer for a minute. That was a good minute. It was my favorite minute of the year. Anyway, Heidi is packing in her apartment when Spencer walks in and talks like nothing's going on, except to joke that he thought she would have changed the locks. Spencer asks why she's packing, and Heidi says that she's going to Colorado for a little while. Spencer says that he was giving her space, and Heidi says that she didn't need it, but now she does, so she's going to leave him alone for a while so that he can think about what he wants, and she can think about what she watns. Spencer says he knows what he wants, and asks when she's coming back. Heidi has no answer, so Spencer offers to let her have the apartment. Heidi says that she needs to go home for a while. Spencer faux-casually says, "So I assume the wedding isn't happening any time soon?" Heidi starts crying and says that she just needs some space because their relationship isn't working. Spencer gives her a hug and walks out.
