Things She Said

Jack and Riley eat takeout in Riley's office. Jack suggests that Riley talk to Fenderson's parents, because they would surely know who Fenderson's doctor was. Riley says he's asked, and that they don't, because they haven't talked to Fenderson in three years. Jack says that Riley should search medical journals, because if the doctor was "dabbling in alternative use, he was probably bragging about it." Riley does a search for "Equinar/Chronic Pain." Jack looks through Riley's college yearbook and asks how Riley doesn't remember Fenderson when they were both in chess club. There are colleges with chess clubs? Riley says it was a big club. Jack accuses Riley of having a mullet, but Riley claims that it was just fashionably long. I don't think Jack should be accusing other people of having a mullet because I remember Rob Lowe in the '80s and also, frankly, he has kind of a mullet right now. Riley asks about Jack's case, and Jack says that it has its moments, but that he'd still rather be at the clinic working on a case like Riley's. Then there's a callback to the mullet thing which doesn't really work as a joke because (a) mullet jokes are so 2000 and (b) callbacks aren't that funny when they are calling back something that happened about ten seconds earlier. Jack leaves, and Riley starts looking at his search results. He grabs a pen and paper and copies down some information from his screen, like, why he couldn't just print it out, I don't know.

Brit hands Charlie some work, and then Charlie sits down at his desk. Fineman tells him, "You're backing the wrong horse there, Jethro." Charlie claims his conversation with Brit was work-related, and then wonders where Ariel is going to get Fineman, "except maybe to rehab." Fineman says that his relationship with Ariel is not professional, but is based on "unrequited lust" and is sure to end badly. Charlie says he's not sticking around long, because he has a plan. He adds, "Plan your work, and work your plan. That's what I always say." Fineman snorts, "Actually, I've never heard you say that, but you go ahead. Make it happen." I think Fineman is my second-favorite character, after Brit. Imagine if they teamed up!
