Erik pours and delivers the smoothies, and then grabs the metal detector. Corbin and Michael carry the frame of their raft down to the shoreline. I immediately see a couple of problems with the raft, and they all have to do with the fact that they tried to make it look cool. Just build a flat raft and pile everyone on. Haven't they ever seen every other reality show where they go to boot camp and have to build a raft and it's all about teamwork and then one person discovers that working together really is the best way? Corbin asks Erik what he's doing. Erik quickly lies that he's looking for materials for the raft. Ahmad busts him and explains what Erik is really doing. I have to say that the members of the raft-building group do not look like they are in any hurry. Ahmad points out Stephen "Cabana Boy" Baldwin across the beach. Everyone looks disgusted and Corbin tells them to focus on the task at hand. Erik gives Stephen some quarters and orders him to count them. Hee! Stephen does. In an interview, Michael says that there were probably a lot of ways to configure the raft, but that none of them would work in a panic state. Corbin is in a panic state. Erik has $11.50. Baldwin tools around. Key word being "tools." The raft-building team decides to take the raft to the water and see if it will float. They all try to pile on, but it's already off-balance and sinking. Erik has found the $15, and he pushes the kayak out into the water. When they show Erik kayaking from a different angle, you can see the raft team hasn't even gotten in the water yet. Erik pulls up to the tube with the money and grabs the flag, earning an exemption. The rest of the players give up on their raft, which looks like it gave up on them about five minutes earlier. Frederique asks if Corbin was really a carpenter. In an interview, Frederique says that Corbin was misleading, because he should have been able to make something that would float.
