After dinner, the players are taken next to a river somewhere and Jon asks who would be willing to sacrifice their journal. Alex, Paul, and Nicole all volunteer and Jon tells them to decide amongst themselves. Nicole thinks this is an exemption, but they don't know that. They shoot numbers and Alex wins, so he hands his journal over to Jon. Jon lights a torch and waves it around like he's going to burn Alex's journal, but instead has Alex gather up the other journals and place them on a nearby table. Jon lights a rope, which ignites the table and the journals. So everyone but Alex (and Craig, who's not there) lost their journal. Mark looks like he's about to kill someone. And he keeps making comments about it and might actually be crying. Alex gets his journal back. Mark walks off to be alone and refuses consolation from his teammates. The players want to get in their vans and leave, but Mark is gone. This also ends up amounting to nothing because he shows up shortly and pouts the whole way home. This makes Clay start to rethink his coalition with Mark.
