The first problem is to remove eight pieces of wood from a diagram assembled on the floor, and leave only two squares that do not touch. Oh, I'm so bad at those spatial-relations-type questions. Jim figures it out fairly quickly and they move on.

The second problem is a pattern of letters, and they have to say which two come next. Oh, I'm so good at these. I know you don't believe me, but I figured this one out very quickly. Anyway, if you want to play the home game, here is the pattern: "A Y D V G S J P ? ?" They eventually figure out that you have to look at every other letter, and that the final two are M and M. They get two guesses for that one? They're up to $30,000.

We see the group outside wondering about the trap. The next question is straight out of Die Hard With A Vengeance. They have a three-gallon bottle and a five-gallon bottle, and they have to use those to end up with four gallons of water, without estimating. ["Hey, this one just came up on a mailing list I'm on!" -- Wing Chun] I know there's an easy way to do this, but I couldn't figure it out. It's one of those problems that afterwards, when I see the solution, I think, "Oh, it's so obvious!" Anyway, someone posted the solution on the forums. We see the outside group wondering if they will be offered exemptions. Steven claims that he wouldn't take it. Kathryn doesn't believe him. Back to the gallon question -- they get it wrong, because they estimated.

The fourth question is this: "John swears his mother and grandmother are the same age and born on the same day. How is this possible?" Think about it. Think about it. Okay, I'll tell you. He's talking about his paternal grandmother. Kate figures it out. They're up to $45,000.

The fifth question: "When you count from one to one hundred, how many nines do you pass?" I'll give you a hint -- don't forget the tens column. Henry points that out. They guess twenty, and get it right.

Outside, Steven, and Charlie are discussing The Mole. In an interview, Charlie says that "someone in law enforcement should be the one to ferret out who The Mole is," and he and Steven are the only two who fit the bill. Yeah, because if you're not in law enforcement, you couldn't possibly have any deductive capabilities, or the ability to think logically and analytically.
