Hookers, Narcissistic Disorders, and Murderers

I have given up all hope of ever seeing Hunky D.A. again. What have I done to deserve this? No, really. What have I done? Must DEK consistently rob me of everything I love about television?

Boston. Morning. Inside The Firm, Rebecca touts her indignation before her morning coffee: "You're actually helping him?" She turns to Ellenor, "And you?" Ellenor says, "Come on. I can't resist." Blah he's a murderer blah. Eugene says they only know he's a murderer because they represented him. Except that the police and the D.A.'s office would know too, wouldn't they? Lindsay thinks that being a murderer is beside the point; after all, Joey Heric is a lunatic, and thank God for that. The phone rings in the background. Note to self: the "second" plot is about to begin. Bobby puts the conversation to rest: "Look. The ship has sailed. I said I'd help." Cut to Lucy, who has answered the phone: "Jimmy, it's someone from Brigham Hospital." The Lump answers the phone. His face falls immediately. Be patient, my pretties -- I have the feeling we're in for some drama with a capital "D."

Brigham Hospital Where They Make A Bed For The Pain. Jimmy and Lucy approach the hospital room where Jennifer Cole rests. As they enter, she turns to look at them. The Symphony Of Breathless Beatings accompanies the two into the room. Jimmy whispers, "Hi." We get a good look at Jennifer's face. Her left eye is completely discoloured. She's been walloped pretty hard. The bruise is so purple it looks like a bunch of grapes was squished into her skin. The cheekbone beneath her left eye is equally bruised; it's not as purple, but still, it looks mighty painful. Jennifer says, "I'm sorry, Jimmy." He shushes her, and then introduces Lucy, the "rape counselor." Jennifer says, "I feel so stupid." Pause. "You're going to be mad, Jimmy. I'm still --" He interrupts, "Prostitution." She nods her head. Apparently, it was a trick that "went crazy." Jimmy asks where the baby is, and Jennifer tells him she's okay. Jimmy: "So. What happened? One of your tricks beat you up?" Jennifer responds, "He raped me. And then he beat me up." Jimmy is shocked: "He raped you?" Um, didn't we assume that, though, from the mere fact that Lucy is present? He continues, "The sex wasn't consensual?" No! Jennifer explains that it probably would have been because they went to a room, but as soon as they got there, the guy freaked out. She says, "It's like he had this thing against hookers. Like we were evil. And he raped me." Jimmy asks if she would recognize him if the police showed her some photographs. Jennifer looks up at the Lump with tears in her eyes and says, "He gave me his name." His real name. Not a fake name. His real name. Didn't even pretend to be someone else. Wasn't worried about it all, you know, handing over his I.D. to a prostitute. Nope. His real name. Yawn.
