The Courthouse Where Helen Controls All The Pain. Jimmy and Helen do the walk-and-talk. I'm surprised Helen doesn't fall over. She's carrying a briefcase that looks to weigh more than she does. "Hot Lips" Gamble says, "Jimmy." Pause. "The police questioned the guy." Jimmy says earnestly, "What's his story?" Apparently, Jennifer and her john went back to her place; he didn't know she was a hooker; after they had sex, she tried to extort him for ten grand; he refused and then left. Jimmy whines, "And you believe that?" Helen points out that the examination didn't reveal any vaginal bruising or tearing. Jimmy argues, "Did you see her face? Do you think she did that to herself?" Helen's lips glow like they are their own source of nuclear power. She responds, "I can't rule out the possibility that she did." Why? "This is a hooker with a drug problem!" Pause. Helen doesn't think the whole prostitute-who-was-raped theory will fly. In fact, she insists, she's "not that good of a D.A." Jimmy stands there looking like a cartoon character that was just pounded in the face with a cast-iron frying pan. I guess Helen's vengeance for justice at all costs stops at prostitutes who may or may not have been raped. That's a good thing to know.
