Bizarro South Africa

They arrive at a restaurant. David has a few glimmering tears left on his eyelids, and I find that a little hard to believe. He couldn't have wiped his face before he got into the camera lights? In an interview, Matt says that David sat with the tour guides on the patio, and it visually defined the white tables and the black tables. First of all, shut up, Matt. Second of all, I still don't understand why it's such a big deal if David doesn't hang out with them. They don't like him. You'd think they'd be happy that he's leaving them alone. Sure, it would have been nice of David to start a group conversation about what he's feeling and his experiences in South Africa. But he didn't. Get over it. David asks the tour guides about the townships, and they discuss the crime and drugs, and the similarities to America. Melissa tells Jamie that she wonders why David can't spend that energy on her. Jamie says that David brings them all down and then in a heartbeat, he'll be energetic and articulate with someone else, and it makes you wonder what's wrong with you. I don't know why they don't just do what Kelley does and ignore him. All this attention is probably making him very happy.

Chris the tour guide is back after a brief stay in a mental hospital. He tells them that they will be going abseiling, which is a lot like rappelling. I don't know what the difference is, but there must be one, right? In an interview, Melissa says that no one told her exactly what it is. The guides ask the group if they know what they are in for, and they all say no. The guide says that's probably for the best, and then tells them they will descend from a hundred-meter cliff, and asks if that makes them happy. They all say yes, except of course, Melissa, who says no. Where do they get the tour guides/comedians anyway? In an interview, Melissa says that she's nervous but trying to contain it so that she can prove to herself she can do it. Haven't we seen this on, I don't know, every episode of Road Rules ever? The mission involves someone's greatest fear, which that person is very upset about, but eventually with the support of the rest of the team, the person overcomes their fear. We know the formula. Can't they at least do something interesting with it? The comedian/guide asks if any of them have any medical problems, like they might have a heart attack or allergies. He sets it up and Melissa knocks it down, saying that she's allergic to abseiling. Danny looks very pale. In an interview, Danny says he's terrified of heights. He's not scared of heights, he's terrified. Julie tells Danny that this is the coolest thing that they will do on this trip. The guide gets Melissa all hooked up and starts talking about "the system." Melissa jokes that the system is corrupt, and then laughs, but not, "I-just-told-a-funny-joke" laughter. More like, "Oh-my-God-I'm-going-to-plummet-to-my-death" laughter. Melissa starts going over the cliff. Danny says he's not doing it. Kelley yells out that Melissa is brave, and that Kelley doesn't know if she's even going to do it. How is that helping? Everyone starts to cheer and Melissa goes over the ledge.
