The next day, the Leding family is hard at work on the farm. The girls are still sleeping, and Janet tells them to get up and get ready because it's 5:30 AM. The funniest part is when she opens the bedroom door and there's a shoe rack hanging on the back, jam-packed with shoes. Looks like Paris and Nicole are making themselves at home. Not Waylon says that one part of the simple life is keeping a job for more than one day, so Paris and Nicole are going to "try this work thing again at a fast food joint called Sonic Burger." In the kitchen, Curly asks if the girls like eating at Sonic, and Paris says she's never been there. Probably because they don't have any in Beverly Hills. Or in most of Southern California, anyway. She makes herself toast and wonders who would eat a burger at 6:00 AM. Curly explains that they have "a real good breakfast" at Sonic including "sausage on a stick."

Paris and Nicole trudge into Sonic at 7:15 AM, forty-five minutes late. The manager greets them; she cheerfully says that they're late, and asks if they slept in. I don't think Paris is wearing a bra, so we know that putting on undergarments didn't slow her down. The manager goes through the paperwork, as though Paris and Nicole are (a) getting paid by Sonic and (b) going to be there more than one day. The manager hands them each a W-4, explaining that they should indicate how many dependents they want to claim on their taxes. Paris and Nicole are stymied by that one, and in their defense, in my first few jobs, that one always confused me, too. The manager doesn't help things because she just says it's "how many you want to claim on your taxes." I don't think she knows, either.

The manager gives the girls hairnets, and they change into their uniforms. They giggle over how stupid the hairnets look. Paris starts singing Adam Sandler's lunch lady song. Nicole says she's going to start crying because she looks so ugly. I don't think she looks that different from the way she usually looks. Paris is wearing red spike-heeled sandals with her Sonic uniform. At least they match. Are those the shoes she wore there, or did she bring extra shoes to change into? The manager (whom I'm just going to call Red, since she has red hair) shows Nicole and Paris to the food-assembly area (let's not fool ourselves and pretend that fast food is actually cooked). Now you know this is staged, because fast-food workers don't get to work the grill on the first day. You start out taking orders, and then you move to the drive-thru, and then you might get promoted to the grill. Nicole fills up drink cups. Paris learns to answer the speaker. Red tells Paris what to say, and Paris manages to take an order with Red's help, which is a little sad, since all she has to do is find the button that says "burger" or whatever and push it.
