Christopher and Murmur take a smoke break outside an NA meeting. Christopher wants to talk about his new relationship. Murmur thinks that Christopher should back off, since Tony already "planted the flag." Christopher clarifies that Tony and Julianna never actually fucked, so Murmur backpedals and says that it's touchy, but not unheard of. Since when is Murmur an expert on Family rules? Christopher tries for bravado when he says, "Fuck [Tony] and what he don't know." I'm not buying it. Anyway, Christopher thinks the real problem is that Julianna is in recovery, too. Murmur reminds Christopher that his last slip was hard to come back from, and if Tony finds out that Christopher is back on the junk, he'll "mulch his roses with [Christopher]." Christopher thinks Julianna's sobriety is solid. Murmur runs through the two schools of thought. One is that Chris and Julianna could enable each other, sharing bad habits. Christopher says that Julianna won't even let him have Red Bull. Murmur says that the second school of thought is that two are stronger than one, and that they should just keep an eye on it. I love how Murmur never even brings up that Christopher is married and about to become a father, like that's not even relevant, either ethically, or in terms of additional strain and stress which could lead to a lapse.
Meanwhile, Julianna is telling her sponsor about Christopher. At first, the sponsor is disapproving, because Christopher is married, and second, because he's connected. Julianna, who is suffering from a cold, admits that she was involved with Tony Soprano first. The sponsor is appalled. What would you say if a friend came to you with this? I can't even imagine. Julianna says that Christopher is sweet and good to her. Yeah, now. Wait until the first time he hits you. The sponsor says that she's not judging, but she is concerned. She has experience with Family members, and they are sociopaths and murderers. Julianna thinks that the sponsor is being a little dramatic. Keep telling yourself that.
