Now it's time for Nicholas David to meet Bill Withers. This might be the best moment of my life, next to all other Team Cee Lo performances tonight. He's singing "What's Going On," then gets feedback from Bill Withers on how to be an A+ human. The performance sounded better in the rehearsal, but Nicholas David is still an alien gift from the gods of soul. I don't like the staging as much.
Adam tells Nicholas that he is singing every one of his dream songs to perform; his karaoke fantasies. Adam is quite possibly moved, and says he will always be a fan. Blake makes a joke about Nicholas's glasses; Adam calls Blake stupid. Adam is right. Christina is passed over (yay) for Cee Lo, who says we need Nicholas David. Carson puts on some sunglasses, lord knows where those came from, aside from a desperate plea for attention.
The last performance of the night belongs to Cassadee Pope, who is my least favorite artist remaining. She'll be safe another week, just based on this placement. Plus, the iTunes peeps love her. True to form, Cassadee is performing "Are You Happy Now" by Michelle Branch this week. And we're talking about her dad again. Blake knows when to pull on the heartstrings.
Cassadee walks with her guitar toward a microphone stand, then pretends to play the guitar as the flashpots explode and give her a hilarious amount of static electricity in her hair, which production tries to eliminate with the wind machine and creative camera angles. I'm not sure why this performance got to go last, but oh well.
"You got a great voice, baby, and you know it," Cee Lo tells Cassadee. Adam disses The Roxy because of the one time he and Maroon 5 opened for Michelle Branch and they didn't give them a dressing room. Adam admits that Cassadee is the frontrunner, because of placement and iTunes and any other reason that is not related to raw talent. Blake notes that she's saying something important, America. It's infuriating that Blake wants to make a plea toward voting for heart and soul when it comes to Cassadee, when people like Nicholas and Trevin are in this competition just stomping it. I like how we're not hearing from Christina anymore, who has likely been replaced by a body double now.
