Knocked Out and About

Celica chose "Never Say Never" by Justin Bieber because it's in her realm of "pop" and "young." This is a misguided choice, and may have just given the battle over to Adriana. Adriana sings first, and just blows the doors off the song, especially with that moment Christina told her to add. This is the first time we're really hearing Celica, and she has a floatier voice than I expected. This makes the song choice even worse for her. Also, I would re-consider those stretchy robot pants.

After the fight, Adam says the performances were different, Blake says they both had pitchy moments, which Adam interrupted to add some banter. It allowed Blake to say Adam has been "not pitchy but bitchy," so I guess that's fun if you like that kind of thing. Christina says they both showcased tremendous talent, but she's going with Adriana. No surprises so far.

The next Team Christina knockout pairing is Alessandra Guercio and Dez Duron. I do not care for either of them, so I have to say poo-pooh to this pairing. Alessandra chose "Take a Bow" by Rihanna, and Dez chose "Stuck on You" by Lionel Richie. Oh, yikes. The only interesting thing about Dez is how many ways he can incorporate a low scoop-neck tee into his outfits.

Alessandra's performance is still too rehearsed and planned, down to every movement. It just seems contrived. I agree with Christina's coaching that the rasp in her voice is interesting and worth exploring, though. Next, Dez Duron takes a big dump all over Lionel Richie's legacy. OK, that's a bit cruel--this performance is not "a big dump" per se, it's just bland. I doubt any of the other coaches are worried about Team Christina at this point.

The coaches have nothing useful to offer, because I think they were asleep. Christina liked the accuracy in both of their performances, but goes with Dez in the end. Dez tells us to keep dreaming, and that it's worth "as many shots as it takes," which I'm sure is embroidered on a vomit-stained pillow in his frat house.

The penultimate pairing from Christina is Chevonne and De'borah. I think these two should have taken on Alessandra and Dez to take them both out. Chevonne chose "Dancing With Myself" because she's tired and just wants to have fun. Never get complacent, Chevonne, even on Team Christina. I have noticed that Christina's flannel shirt knot keeps rising higher and higher on her torso. Is it a clue?
