Later that day, Carver and Herc are sitting in a car out in the Western, watching the corner slingers and chewing over what Colvin said. At least, Carver appears to be chewing it over -- for all I know, Herc is wondering if maybe he should have picked Milt Pappas instead. "If we ain't doing hand-to-hands, then what the fuck?" Herc fumes. "And the shit with bag? What the fuck is that?" They drive off, passing by Bodie, who stares and nods. The fact that Carver hasn't said a thing suggests that he's probably figured out what's going on; the fact that Bodie and his crew resume selling the minute Carver and Herc drive by suggests a whole lot more.
