"It Don't Matter That Some Fool Say He Different..."

The sight of a young lady with shaved business, dancing around a pole on a bar while wearing nothing but a pair of thigh-high stockings must mean we're at Nightshift. Or possibly an extremely slutty lingerie store. Kima enters, trailed by Cheryl and Prez, and checks out the talent, drawling, "That's what I'm talking about." "All right," crabs Cheryl indulgently. Kima looks back at Choirboy Prez and asks what his problem is; even Cheryl tells him he looks like he's about to be sick. Prez -- who came out tonight in, like, a windbreaker from JC Penney -- awkwardly says that he can't look at the ladies. Cheryl looks at Prez disgustedly as Kima asks whether he's never been to a "titty bar." Prez says he has, "but not with women." But you all have so much in common!

In a back room, Kima asks Shardene's friend -- I'll call her Gypsy -- whether she won't get in trouble for talking to Kima. Gypsy, who's bustling around getting ready for her next performance, doesn't care: "You friends with Shardene -- all that matters." She adds that she told the club owners that she was at Nightshift before "them hos" arrived: "And they better make sure I'm here after they leave." Prez asks how long ago the Slavic women were there, and Gypsy says that "the last batch" was there six months ago. She thinks they were Russian, but she couldn't understand them, so she couldn't be certain. Kima asks who brought them, and Gypsy says that the club owner pays extra for them: "There was a woman. She was like the madam, who handled the cash, but I ain't get a name...She had an accent." Kima: "So it's like, one day, all Baltimore girls are at the bar, and the next -- what? All foreign girl?" Gypsy says it was like that, basically: "They was making so much money with them new girls, they start to let some of their regular dancers go. Not me, 'cause I mean, I got clientele here." Prez asks where the women would stay, and Gypsy tartly says that they stayed where they were told, and enumerates the reasons why: they're in the country illegally, they don't speak the language, they don't have any family around, and the men who handle them don't leave them alone. These guys chauffeur them from the motel where they stay to the club, and back again, and run them on whatever errands they might need to do. They're also "right outside the motel door when they up in them rooms with the johns." Prez asks whether anyone ever tried to get away, and Gypsy leans back as she says she saw one get "lit up" with a stun gun "just for going down the block to get some dinner." She adds that they barely let the women go to the bathroom by themselves: "And if they see one getting too close to the johns, pfft, that's when they move the whole crew to another town, you know? Keep it so they don't get no help." Certainly, Gypsy, they didn't get any help from...you. I'm just saying.
