Elena is meeting with a pair of prospective home buyers when McNulty comes into her office. The wife yammers on while McNulty messes around with a mannequin that, for some reason, is just inside the door, holding a big "SOLD" sign. Is this really a sales tool that's going to draw in foot traffic? "That waxy-smooth agent is sure to meet all my sales needs!" Anyway, I guess it's worth it for this dumb prop to be there because it gives McNulty something to mug on to try to make Elena laugh as she watches him over her clients' shoulders. Elena subtly covers her mouth, and it doesn't help that when the camera cuts back to show the female client again, McNulty's over her shoulder, unbuttoning the mannequin's blouse and hiking up her skirt. Elena mouths at McNulty to knock it off. By the time the meeting winds up, McNulty's kissing the mannequin's shoulder and diddling her nipple. You have to admire the initiative. McNulty manages to let go of his new girlfriend as the couple walks out past him. Elena quickly moves to restore her wooden colleague's dignity, crabbing at McNulty that he's a child (but without much conviction). She asks what he wants, and he tells her, "Dinner and a movie." She briskly tells him to stop it, and he asks why it's such an unacceptable request. She wearily tells him, "This isn't going anywhere, Jimmy." McNulty tries again: "Dinner and a movie, then I'll walk you to the door, you shake my hand, and tell me to go fuck myself, like you should've done way back when." Elena: "How about I tell you to fuck yourself here and now, and then you can save that money for someone else?" Okay, starting to get a notion of how the hell these two could have ever ended up together in the first place. McNulty wheedles her by reminding her that he signed all her papers: "Give me another shot." Elena gives him an arch look, and relents: "Friday. You pay for the sitter." McNulty grins, and hurries out before Elena changes her mind. Note that Elena told him to pay for a sitter, not find one, so we won't have any Mr. Mom high jinks with Bubbs. Boo.
