"Lambs To The Slaughter Here"

Carcetti's car pulls up at another campaign stop -- a community centre of some sort -- as Carcetti works the phone, calling someone after hours to deal with the alleys in Ms. Simmons's neighbourhood. The guy he's called reluctantly agrees, and Norman finally gets Carcetti off the phone and tries to hustle him into the building Gray's just coming out of. Breezing past, Gray comments that Carcetti's more than two hours late, and that he won't get very far disrespecting his base. Carcetti stops Gray, saying that he's sorry about the way things turned out, but that if Gray wins the election, Carcetti will help him in office, and Carcetti will need the same from Gray if their positions are reversed. Gray: "Fuck you, Tommy." Succinct and to-the-point; how'd this guy get into politics in the first place?!

Tilghman, by day. Donnelly brings Prez down a hall to what will be his classroom. Evidently, no one tidied up on the last day of the previous year; there are still scraps of paper on the floor and bulletin boards, and several chairs and desks are on their sides on the floor. Prez looks around, trying not to be too shell-shocked, and asks Donnelly, "So this is me?" "This is you," Donnelly replies. "Try not to pistol-whip anyone until at least October," she does not add.

Little Kevin shambles through some weeds and comes out to a corner, where Pandemic is apparently being slung. By the side of a building, Randy has set up a crate or something on its side, and is carefully taking inventory of the junk food currently filling his open knapsack. He excitedly tells Little Kevin that he bought it all at "the Korean's" and plans to re-sell it at school for twice the price. That's pretty good, particularly in the era when so many schools don't even have soda machines anymore. Kids need their empty calories and high-fructose corn syrup, for god's sake! Anyway, Little Kevin peels off a bill to buy some Skittles, looking up the block at Lex; when Randy tries to give him his change, Little Kevin tells him to keep it, if he'll go tell Lex a girl wants to meet him that night at the playground. Randy's like, "A girl?" Little Kevin elaborates: Randy should say that Patrice wants to see Lex at the playground after 8. Randy suspiciously asks why Little Kevin doesn't tell Lex himself, and Little Kevin says he doesn't want to catch any shit from Bodie for missing work. Randy tacitly agrees, and Little Kevin waddles off, enjoying his Skittles, as you do.
