In a nearly empty church, Frank kneels at a pew, crosses himself, and takes a seat. He pulls a wad of bills out of his pocket and is putting it in an offertory envelope when Fr. Jerome Lewandowski (Tel Monks) shows up, greeting him as "Franusz," awesomely. Frank tells him, "Got you covered here." Fr. Jerome beckons Frank to join him. That cardigan he has on over his vestments may have looked shabby when this aired, in '03, but in '07 it's all over the men's magazines. Way to be ahead of the curve, Fr. J.! On their way to wherever they're going, Fr. Jerome asks Frank, "You wanna see your window?" As they stride toward it -- and seriously, that thing has got to be ten feet square; it makes Valchek's look even more chintzy by comparison -- we see that it's a fairly contemporary-looking depiction of stevedoring, without any ecclesiastical component I can see. Fr. Jerome exposits that Frank sent away for it to Esslingen: "The Germans are hard-headed, but you can't beat them for craft." Yeah, Germans and Poles: no love lost there. Frank says that he was glad to do it for the church. The two contemplate it briefly, and then Frank says he needs to ask something in return. "Anything I can do," says Fr. Jerome warmly. Frank asks for "some face time with the Senator." "Barbara?" clarifies Fr. Jerome. He tells Frank that she comes to the early mass on Sunday, which apparently is celebrated in Polish. And they don't schedule that one in primetime? Shocking! Frank intensely tells Fr. Jerome that they have problems with the canal and the grain pier. Fr. Jerome rejoins, "I got tough guys coming in to confess things I never heard before. I don't need you to tell me how bad things are at the docks." Frank nods, and asks whether Fr. Jerome will hook him up with the Senator, then. "You didn't need a German window to ask me for that, Francis," says Fr. Jerome serenely. He adds that Frank has made donations that far exceed what would have been necessary for the church to mount Frank's window: "How long since your last confession?" We see the two men's silhouettes in front of the window for a few beats, before Frank starts snickering and claps Fr. Jerome on the shoulder, saying he'll see him later. Well, he did just confess to three and a half inches earlier today.
