McNulty's brought Omar to some off-brand men's store, expositing that the voucher he got was only for $150, and telling Omar to look on the clearance rack. He holds a butter-yellow jacket up to Omar, who glares at him like McNulty should be grateful Omar isn't packing right now. McNulty: "It's a look." Omar: "No, it ain't." Well, not for anything other than breakfast to wear, anyway. McNulty gives Omar the voucher and tells him to pick out his own gear; McNulty's going to the federal building across the street, but will return in half an hour. Omar says that if McNulty doesn't find Omar there, he'll be at Liddell's, around the corner. Left alone, he grabs the sleeve of another jacket, this one the colour of orange sherbet, drawling, "Either that, or I'll be with Muffy at the club." Ha! Look out for Omar on the back nine, y'all.
Surveillance squat. Kima is hunched at the window again, camera at the ready, but sits back up to ask Carver, "Where's he at?" Carver swallows a huge bite of whatever he's eating before replying that Herc said he had to go get his props. Seems like Herc would have to go a long way to get any props from anyone for anything. Oh, wait -- he means actual props, like to hold and shit. Carver radios Herc: "Yo, dickhead, where you been at?" Herc's voice: "When you're working deep cover, Carv, you gotta get into the part." Kima shakes her head exhaustedly, and then both she and Carver look outside, just in time to see Frog's colleague, Dirt, head off. Herc strolls up to take Dirt's place. Frog pulls a snap and asks if Herc needs any help. Herc asks if Frog has any "raw," and Frog replies, "You got it to spend?" "For sure," says Herc. Frog sends Herc to go "holler at [Frog's] niggas 'round back." They execute another overdone bro handshake, Frog moves off, and Herc radios to Carv, "You copy this?" He takes the toothpick out of the corner of his mouth: "It's all in the props, baby." And I'm sure he took it from a coffee shop in the neighbourhood for maximum authenticity. Carver and Kima crack up.
INS. A workman takes down a sign including the bureau as part of the Department of Justice, and another puts up a new sign trumpeting the Department of Homeland Security. Department of bullshit, more like. I've seen the flow charts! Anyway, an Agent Cleary comes around a corner, points to the new sign, and ruefully asks McNulty, "Feel any different? Me neither." McNulty, chuckling, gets up to shake hands, and the two men introduce themselves. Cleary asks how he can help, and McNulty pulls out his photo of his original victim, explaining that he found her floating in the water, and that they think she's "linked to the dead girls found in the container at Patapsco." Cleary says that McNulty's "people" were just at the office, wanting a trace on the can: "Homicide fellows." McNulty confirms that Cleary's talking about Lester and Bunk. Cleary asks whether McNulty's working with them, and McNulty says that he is, "sort of," since it was he who fished the victim out of the water: "I kind of feel like it's on me to find her people." Cleary chuckles: "You're kidding, right?" McNulty knows it's probably a lost cause, but says he thought that maybe Cleary's guys had pulled in any of the women who were in Baltimore "on the circuit." Cleary affably tells McNulty, "Step into my world, Virginia," and for some reason we watch them walk into the office for like twenty minutes.
