If they can send all that up to Valchek in a hurry, they'll be able to buy themselves some time. He then turns to Kima, Carver, and Herc, telling them to do what they do best: "Find out what port folks like to cop on a Friday night, and set up some hand-to-hands -- maybe a reverse or two." Yeah, I don't know how impressive a barrel of acetone is going to look on a table at a photo shoot. Herc notes that a lot of the port guys are white, and says that some of the street dealers in Valchek's district are, too: "So that means you're gonna need a white boy to go down to some of these southeastern corners, right? So Kima, Carv on the rooftops. It's my time to front." Finally, a use for Herc's special skill: being white. We hear the door open, and then from around the other side of the bulletin board, here comes Lester. Yay! "Cool Lester Smooth!" exclaims Kima, plainly delighted to see him, as is everyone else. Lester looks relieved to see the old detail gang back together, even as he cracks, "Same fuckups in the same shit detail working out of the same shithouse kind of office. You people lack for personal growth, you know that?" Daniels, shaking Lester's hand, explains that it's a temporary posting, and that Lester will return to Homicide when it's over. Lester's not sure Rawls will want him to come back: "Last I looked, I was high on his shit list." "Ah, then we did you a favour," says Carver. Lester says he wouldn't go that far: "But fuck it. Who we chasing?" Prez points at the board. Lester turns: "Frank Sobotka?" Daniels looks up sharply to hear Lester say the target's name without having been briefed. "How fucking good is he?" crows Prez. Hee. Kima asks how Lester knows him, and Lester explains that he and Bunk were "fucking with him" last week, over the Jane Does. Daniels asks whether Frank's a suspect, but Lester says no: "Just someone who know what's getting done on the port terminals." He asks why they're on Frank, and Prez says it's because Valchek hates Frank's guts, "which, in the Southeastern, goes for probable cause." Heh. Carver explains about the "too much cash" thing. "So you're thinking drugs," Lester surmises. Daniels shrugs. Herc: "In this fucking town, what other crime is there?" Aaaaand someone from the Chamber of Commerce heads out to stencil that on the sign at the edge of town.
