When Luke and Mulder arrive at the RV park, they find a mass of people huddled at one end of the lot, watching an out-of-control RV careening around in circles. Ronnie, standing in the midst of the crowd, waves hello again. Luke and Mulder look at each other, and Luke suggests they try and shoot the tires out of the trailer. Mulder looks amenable to this idea.
"Anyway, skipping ahead," Mulder says, back in the LBO. "Why skip ahead? What happened then?" Scully asks. Mulder is uncharacteristically silent. "Mulder?" Scully asks. "You shot out the tires, and what then?"
RV park. Luke and Mulder empty their service weapons in the direction of the RV. Nothing happens. "Okay, here's something you may not know. Shooting out the tires on a runaway RV is a lot harder then it looks," Mulder voice-overs. I'll make a note of that for future reference. You never know when you're going to find yourself in the path of a runaway RV with a gun in your hand. He and Luke fire and fire and fire and nothing happens. "I then tried a different approach," he says.
Cut to Mulder, hanging onto the back of the RV as it speeds around the parking lot. "Arrrgghhhh! Booooooy! Heellllllp! Arfffffffff!" he yells. "Go ahead, bird-dog it," Luke calls. Mulder screams and screams and yells and screams and finally just lets go of the trailer, rolling through the mud until he finally comes to a stop. Luke makes a sympathetic face. Mulder moans. Luke finally helps him to his feet. "Oof," Mulder says. Behind them, the RV rolls to a shuttering halt. "Finally, we prevailed," Mulder voice-overs.
Mulder opens the trailer door. A dead body spills out, complete with puncture wounds in the neck. "That's the same as the others," Luke brilliantly deduces. "Right down to the shoes," Mulder says. He voice-overs that he and Luke interviewed everyone at the RV park, but came up empty-handed.
"Tired, frustrated and lacking a solid lead, I just wanted to get cleaned up," Mulder voice-overs as we cut to a shot of him standing in the doorway of Scully's room at the Davey Crockett/Sam Houston Motor Lodge/Court. She's sitting on the bed, glaring at him. "I had the sheriff drop me at the hotel. Which is where I ran into you," he says. Mulder sinks into the chair at the motel and looks noble and put-upon. "What do you mean you want me to do another autopsy? Why do I have to do it right now?" Scully yelps irritably. "I just spent hours on my feet doing an autopsy. All for you! I do it all for you, Mulder! I haven't even eaten since 6:00 this morning and all that was half of a cream cheese bagel and it wasn't even real cream cheese, it was light cream cheese!" Mulder continues looking noble and put upon. Scully keeps talking. "And now you want me to run off and do another autopsy?" she yells at him. Finally, she gets a good look at his mud-covered suit. "What the hell happened to you?" she asks. Mulder says nothing. "Finally, you left," he voice-overs. Scully gets up and stomps to the door. "Don't you touch that bed," she snaps before leaving, slamming the door so hard that the painting over Mulder's head slips sideways. Mulder wearily pulls himself out of the chair and turns on the television. He slips out of his shoes, shrugs off his trench coat and blazer, and heads to the bathroom to clean up.
