There's a knock on the door. Mulder wanders out of the bathroom in a wife-beater and opens the door to admit Ronnie with a pizza. "The lady outside? She said you'd pay for this," Ronnie says. Mulder sighs and get into the other room to fetch his wallet out of his pants, giving Ronnie thirteen dollars for a $12.98 bill. Which is, I suppose, how he can afford to go on the lam all the time -- he's saving tons of cash by stiffing people on tips. Ronnie just looks slightly crestfallen. "Okay then, enjoy," he says, and goes. Mulder stands in his undies and opens the pizza box. "Ah, Scully," he says, looking lovingly at the pie.
"So, I ate your dinner," he voice-overs. Mulder lies on the bed, stuffing pizza into his face. He rolls over at one point to put more money in the Magic Fingers. "And that's when I saw it," he voice-overs, staring at his shoes, which are now untied. He falls back on the pillow and blinks, hard. He shakes his head as his eyes slowly unfocus and he turns a little green. He looks...drugged. He turns over to reach for his phone, but falls off the bed instead. He manages to struggle to his knees and leans against the bed as he dials. "Scully," snaps a voice over the phone. Mulder just moans and breathes, unable to speak. "Hello? Hello?" Scully says. He grunts faintly. "Creep," Scully spits, then hangs up on him. Mulder looks up to see Ronnie staring at him with fluorescent green eyes and bared fangs. He half-heartedly chucks the phone at him, but it just lands on the bed. Somehow, Mulder manages to grab hold of his sunflower seeds and toss them all over the room. "Oh, man," Ronnie groans. "What'd you have to do that for?" he asks, leaning over to pick them up, one by one. "You? Are in big trouble," he tells Mulder parentally. Mulder tries to pull himself up on the bed, but lands on the floor beside it. He moans and blinks. "Then I was out cold," he voice-overs. "I don't know for how long, but when I finally came to..." he says, trailing off. Ronnie is poised above him, about to bite. Behind him, the door swings open. "Mulder?" Scully asks from the doorway. Mulder watches as Ronnie gets plugged twice in the chest. Ronnie looks down at the bullet holes, irritated, then leaps over the bed toward Scully. On the floor, Mulder makes a concerned face.
LBO. Scully furrows her brow. "You're saying that I actually hit him two times?" she asks. Mulder nods, but tells her that the bullets had no effect. "And then he sort of leapt at me like a flying squirrel?" Scully asks. Mulder confirms this, although, he says, he wouldn't use the phrase "flying squirrel" in their meeting with Skinner. Scully purses her lips.
