Doggett finds Moronica…um, somewhere…all cocooned up. "[Moronica], hold on! Can you hear me?" he asks, pulling the cobwebby material away from his partner's body. "Heeess goddd da grill," Moronica mumbles, which I think translates to "He's got the girl" if you take all that stuff out of her mouth. Scully sticks her head into the room and tells Doggett that she's running over to Emory's -- she's lost contact with Rocky. "Oh, hey, a cocoon. Yeah, that happened to me and Mulder once," she tells him. "He'll get a real chuckle out of this when I tell him about it tonight in bed, while he rubs my feet."
Somewhere, Scully finds Natalie sobbing on a sofa. I so don't know what's going on here or where any of these people are, nor do I care. Natalie doesn't speak, but merely squeals and points at the staircase. Scully goes up to the attic…of whatever house this is…and finds a whole bunch of cocoons. "Heeeeellllpppp me," one of them says. It's Rocky. Scully rips him out.
The Feds swarm (so to speak), flashlights in hand. Moronica and Doggett walk onto the scene, finding Scully giving Rocky CPR and mouth-to-mouth. Rocky turns his head and smiles. Let's not go into how Scully, a medical doctor, would be able to find his pulse quite easily and would never give him CPR unless she wanted to kill him. Hey, maybe that explains it!
Let's wrap this up, because I've got cookies in the oven and thirty-seven packages to wrap. Apparently, Principal Witter and Emory Dick were some weird-ass insect/human hybrids, and neither one of them handles it real well. In fact, Principal Witter cocooned Emory's dad to death and left him in the attic. As she and Emory drive out of town, Scully launches into a ponderous voice-over: "[Emory Dick] was neither human nor insect, but something in between, blah blah blah difference hidden only so long…blah blah…not defeat… blah blah who and what we will be….blah blah biology defines…blah blah….forces biology cannot defeat….blah blah mysteries of desire…blah blee blah the heart wants what the heart wants." As Scully yammers, Natalie looks out the window to see that fireflies are spelling out "I Love You" in the night sky. And although she was scared shitless of having to go anywhere with Emory Dick, or even of touching him ever again, she seems to find this somehow quite touching, and she smiles. And that's it. Sigh. You know what I want someone to give me for Christmas? A decent episode to recap.
