At the Army Hospital from Hades (get it? Zeus? Hades? Okay, that was a stretch.), Hendershot is being induced. She looks up at Scully nervously, and asks how long this going to take. Scully takes her hand and tells her that it ought to take four to twelve hours. Hendershot sighs. "All my life I wanted children," she anvils. "Now, I'm afraid of what's growing inside me." Scully gulps. "I don't even know how it happened," Hendershot continues. "You mean…getting pregnant?" Scully raises her eyebrows. Hendershot explains that she had a boyfriend, but she counted the days, and there was no way. No. Way. Scully gulps really, really hard. Hendershot weepily says that she's sure it's an abduction. Scully makes a huge worried face, as Dr. Mumble enters the room to fetch her.
Scully's on the examination table, as Dr. Mumble preps her for her ultrasound, telling her that the fetus is still very small, but they ought to be able to get a good look. Lo and behold, a tiny baby-like form pops up on the TV screen. "You can see it?" Scully asks. Mumble can. She says the baby looks like a perfectly healthy fourteen-week-old fetus. Yeah, Mumble, too bad Scully's eight freaking months along. "Are you sure?" Scully breathes. Mumble is sure. She asks Scully if she wants to know the sex. Scully just wants to make sure everything is hunky-dory. Mumble looks at her, concerned. She smiles, and tells Scully they can do an amniocentesis if she likes. Scully nods.
Washington. Day. Doggett meets with a friend of his, Noel, who looks a bit like a more handsome, less steroid-addled Alien Bounty Hunter crossed with a little Dean Winters. He's not bad looking. Doggett asks him if he's checked into the fingerprint issue. Noel guffaws that he "has a day job." Doggett looks markedly concerned. "I can't wait. It can't wait," he says. Noel eyes Doggett and asks him if he'd like to take a little walk. Skinner's going to be jealous. Noel hushedly tells Doggett that, according to military records, Duffy Haskill died in 1970. Doggett raises his eyebrows at Noel, who admits that it's possible Haskill is "intelligence." Dude, Noel knows way more than he's saying, and I hope Doggett knows it. "Working for who?" Doggett asks. Noel shrugs. Doggett explains to Noel why Haskill came to see him. "He wasn't just killing time," Doggett explains. He makes a thoughtful face and wonders if Haskill was interested in some of the stuff in his office. Stuff about "a conspiracy to hide the truth." Noel smirks. "About extraterrestrials?" he asks, snidely. Doggett pleads with him, telling him that it's not about him, as much as it is about his partner. "There's no conspiracy," Noel lies neatly. Nevertheless, he tells Doggett he'll make some more inquiries, and find out who Haskill is by the end of the day. He takes his leave and lopes off. Doggett stares after him, brow furrowed.
