Outside the pueblo, Moronica and Doggett's helicopter touches down and the two agents spill out. They're crossing the sand when another car pulls up -- a black SUV. "Who the hell is that?" Doggett wonders. Why, it's Noel Rooooooaoooaaar, all in black and looking irritated as hell. Moronica shoots Doggett an intensely nervous look.
Inside the pueblo, CSM lights another cancer stick. "Which leads me to tell you what Mulder's afraid to, Agent Scully," he says. "Come on, let's go," Mulder says quickly. Scully hesitates. "It's a scary story," CSM coos to her. "You want to come sit on my lap?" Heh. Mulder shoots him a dirty look. "You don't scare me," Scully spits. CSM smiles, telling her that his story "has scared every president since Truman in '47." Mulder snaps that Scully doesn't have to hear this. "No, I want to hear it, Mulder," she finally says. CSM settles back in his chair. "Ten centuries ago, the Mayans were so afraid that their calendar stopped on the exact date my story begins," he says. Mulder sighs and crosses his arms tightly and looks about ready to burst into tears. Scully just listens calmly. "December 22, the year 2012," CSM announces. "The date of the final alien invasion." He smiles. "Mulder can confirm the date. He saw it at Mount Weather, where our own secret government will be hiding when it all comes down." Scully glances over at Mulder. He doesn't look at her. CSM chuckles. "Yeah, you smile, feeling drunk with power. The power to do nothing," Mulder snarls. "My power comes from telling you, seeing your powerlessness, hearing it," CSM oozes. "They wanted to kill you, Fox. I protected you all these years, waiting for this moment. To see you broken. Afraid." Mulder says nothing. He just stares at his father. "Now, you can die," CSM says.
Outside, two black military helicopters swoop onto the scene, to the tune of "Holy Crap, It's a Military Helicopter! Run, Mulder! Run!" Ah, Mark Snow, I'm going to miss you. Are you sure you don't want to work for the nice folks over at Dawson's Creek next year? Think of the tunes you could compose! "Move Over, Dawson! Your Head is Blocking the Sun! (in A minor)," "The Waltz of the Spinectomy," or "Oompah Pah, Oompah Pah, What the Hell Kind of Teenagers Talk Like This?" Come on! It'll be fun.
Down on the sand, Noel Roaoaoaoaoooooooaar is angrily approaching Doggett and Moronica. He sneers when they draw their weapons. "Run, [Moronica], get out of here," Doggett says. "No," Moronica tells him firmly. Noel Rooooooaoaoaooor is backing them against the mountain; soon enough, they'll have nowhere to run, anyway. "[Noel Roaaaaaaooaoaoooooooar]," Doggett says, "that's far enough." Noel Roaoaoaoaooaaar cocks an arrogant brow. "Shoot me, Agent Doggett, if you think it'll make a difference this time," he calmly suggests, still stalking toward them. So Doggett shoots. A bloody hole appears in Noel Rooaoaooaoaoooooaor's chest, but has no effect on his progress. Moronica and Doggett are backed up against the mountain walls. They're trapped. Noel Rooooooooooaaooaoaor takes another step toward them, then stops short. He blinks and turns a bit green, like he might faint. Doggett and Moronica exchange confused glances. Noel Rooooooooooaaoooaoaor's hands begin to shake. He looks down at them, dismayed. His entire body is trembling. His skin begins to turn the color of pewter and bubble and crack. Doggett pulls Moronica to safety moments before Noel Roaooooooooaoaooor flies into the air and right into the rock, just like Michaud did in that episode where Scully and Mulder were emailing each other and I was barfing over the "Dearest Dana" debacle. Moronica and Doggett stare at each other and then at the mountain wall. Mulder and Scully trip out of the pueblo. "Agent Doggett?" Mulder asks. "Mulder, get out of there!" Doggett yells. "They know where you are!"
