While Scully et al sit in the living room and think about stuff and fool with each other's coiffures, Crispy sneaks out of the bedroom and tiptoes down the hall, past the fish tank and into the baby's room. He doesn't even close the door. Crispy takes a vial of something and a rather large needle of out his back pocket, and looks down at William, who is sleeping peacefully in his crib. Crispy rubs a mysterious white substance on William's upper lip (anesthetic? A sedative? I don't know). He removes the baby's pacifier. William looks peaceful and sweet. And totally unafraid of the gigantic needle Crispy is waving around all over the place. Big needle. Big needle. Okay, this is probably not Mulder, right? Because of the enormous and hideous needle. Crispy touches the baby gently and brings the needle closer and closer.
Living room. Doggett snores lightly. Moronica stares at the ceiling. Scully looks at her feet. William bursts out crying. Everyone leaps six feet in the air and runs into William's room. He looks basically unhurt, but he's bawling. Scully scoops him into her arms as Doggett races down the hall to find Crispy, who's still faking sleep. Scully spots a tiny drop of blood on William's sheets. "There's blood! Oh my God!" she yells. "What did he do to him? What did he do to him?" Scully rubs her child's head protectively. Moronica makes a concerned face. Doggett comes racing back into the room when he hears Scully's screams, and man, does he look pissed.
Hospital. Moronica and Scully run inside, Scully cradling William and looking distraught. They're met by the ER team, who sweep William out of Scully's arms and put him on a gurney. He looks so little, lying there all alone. Scully runs along side the doctors as they wheel the baby toward a trauma room. Eventually, she and Moronica are met by a Dr. Edwards, who assures Scully that they'll fix her sweet baboo up right. "I'm a medical doctor," Scully almost sobs. "Can I...?" she asks, nodding at the gurney. Dr. Edwards is super-calm. "Good," she says. "Then you understand." She politely asks Scully to let them do their job. Scully agrees, looking completely exhausted. She and Moronica watch as Dr. Edwards runs into the trauma room and leans over William's tiny body. Scully crumples his little blue hat in her hands and cries.
Over at Casa Scully, Doggett is totally kicking Crispy's ass! "What'd you do to him?" Doggett yelps, slamming Crispy up against the wall. "What'd you do?" He roughly pats Crispy down, looking for the syringe. "Where'd you put it?" He rips the sheets off Scully's bed and throws the mattress aside. The needle and vial are there, wrapped in a scrap of cloth. "Is this it?" Doggett yells. "Is this what you used? ANSWER ME!" Crispy squeals that it is. Doggett grabs him by the neck and smashes him against the door. "If anything happens to that kid, I'm going to take you out personally. I don't care who the hell you are!" he yells.
