Doggett! Part Deux

Scully comes trudging over to the men in her life, and informs them that it "wasn't Mulder" who went over the edge. Doggett says that he knows it was Mulder who jumped off the cliff, because, you know, he saw him. Scully, wearily, informs Doggett that while he has every reason to believe that it was Mulder on that mountain, it was not. Cue the "I Have Seen Things I Cannot Explain" speech, version Scully.2.0. She explains that she's seen "what looks like a man transform into another man." Doggett repeats that last bit, as Skinner looks perplexed. Or concerned. Or both. Hard to say. Maybe his belt is just too tight. Doggett asks the obvious question: if what he saw was not a man, what was it? Scully sighs again and tells him that he doesn't want to know. She stomps away and, turning her back on Skinner and Doggett, crosses her arms across her chest. Now, I love me some Scully, but dude. How is Doggett supposed to know all this? He asks her not to walk away from him, and reminds her that he's asking a legitimate question. Which, truth be told, he is. She turns to face him. "He's ALIEN," she spits. ["I just have to interject here and say that while I am editing this recap, Glark is watching a tape of this episode on the TV on his desk and it's more or less coinciding with my reading. It's an odd editing experience. That's all. I'm trying not to read the recap aloud, thus ruining the episode for him. But it's hard." -- Wing Chun] She explains that what Doggett saw was an alien bounty hunter, looking to collect a bounty on Gibson Praise. Scully Cliffs-Notes the last few seasons of The X-Files by explaining that Gibson is "a human anomaly," and so forth and so on. Scully hypothesizes that the bounty hunter was going to take Gibson back to his ship, where she believes Mulder also is. I have to give Doggett props for not bursting into hysterical laughter right in Scully's face. Instead, he just looks quizzical and calmly tells her that she's beginning to remind him of Agent Mulder, herself. "Then you explain it to me!" Scully hollers, as Doggett retreats to his own sporty SUV, dismissing her petulant yelling with a girly little wave. Skinner and Scully stare at one another, before Skinner takes a deep breath and recaps this entire episode by reminding Scully that the alien bounty hunter can take the form of anyone; of her, of him, of Academy-Award™-winning actress Marisa Tomei. Scully agrees. She wryly comments that "wherever Mulder is right now, he damn well better be smiling." Skinner's pants are cinched in way too tightly. He stands there and watches Scully stomp off. I know this is all hard on her, but, dude, I don't think either Skinner or Doggett deserve this scrapy-ass attitude
