Driving. Driving. Off-roading. This episode of The X-Files is brought to you by Jeep. When you're searching the desert for your partner, who has been abducted by aliens, do it in a Jeep.
Skinner and Scully open the bomb-shelter trapdoor, but Gibson ain't there. They shine their flashlights around, and find him halfway across the desert, sitting on a rock and looking blank. Scully kneels next to him and asks him why he left the bomb shelter. "He's here," Gibson monotones. "I hear him." Scully asks him what he's talking about. "Mulder. I saw him out there." Scully tells Skinner that Gibson has a fever. "You're so close, now," Gibson tells her. Skinner picks Gibson up and starts trekking for the car. Scully sits on the rock, and stares into the night. She tells Skinner to go to the hospital without her. He does. Yes, leaving someone, pregnant or not, in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, without water, or food, or a JACKET, is very smart. Of course, I suppose she could always hang out in the bomb shelter. I'll bet Sympathetic Classmate and Gibson have squirreled away some toys and snacks in there.
Skinner gets Gibson to the hospital, where they fix his little leg.
Skinner stands guard as the boy sleeps. Gibson wakes up with a start, and as Skinner tells him to lie back down, and that everything is okay, he notices what Gibson is looking at in fear; Sympathetic Classmate, in the doorway. Obviously, since Gibson is all scared, it must be the ABH version of Sympathetic Classmate. Yawn. She enters the room. Great security you got at that there hospital.
Out in the middle of the desert, Scully screams her partner's name. Cue EhhhhhhAAAAAAHHHHHH EEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeee music, at long last. She wanders. AhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHAAAAAA. She looks forlorn. Eeeeehhhhhhaaahhhh. She screams for Mulder again. Ahhhhhhh. Ahhhhh. She sighs. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Ahhhhh. In the distance, Scully sees a light. Coming closer. And closer. "Oh, my God," she breathes, as she is wont to do when faced with alien spaceships. AHHHHHHHHH.
The light gets closer. And closer. And closer. Ehhhhh YAAAAAAAAA. Scully stands in the middle of the light...and it becomes clear that it is, in fact, a helicopter. Oh, denied! The helicopter lands, and out rushes Agent Doggett. "For someone who claims he's not following me, you sure have a knack," she says, which is exactly what I was thinking. "Hey, you're where the action is," Doggett retorts. Banter. Banter. Banter. Whatever. Scully tells Doggett that he's afraid she's right. He's not afraid of anything. How do you explain what happened today? What would you do if you found him today? Mulder would do whatever it took? Like lying? GIVE A LITTLE, GET A LITTLE, AGENT DOGGETT! Where's the kid? What kid? The one Skinner took to the hospital! How do you know that? Blah blah blah. Yeah, Skinner was followed. Big shock. Scully asks if Doggett's men are at the hospital. He claims that they have it under control. She wonders how he knows for sure that they actually are his men. D'oh! Point and match: Agent Scully. She does the Scully Stomp out of the frame. Doggett looks dumbfounded.
