Ashley wonders if it would be embarrassing if he took a counter job somewhere and someone recognized him. I do not see how that is more potentially embarrassing than doing this show is. Which brings me to the fact that we all know Ashley got some money to do this show. I think it would be much more interesting to watch him be like, "Yeah, I sold my soul to MTV in hopes of becoming the next Jessica Simpson. But slightly less orange and whoreish." Instead he goes into the café where they're enjoying a drink and looks at the job board. It is there that he sees an ad for a sales associate at a music equipment rental place. The job qualifications include music experience and Ashley points to himself saying, "That's me."
Ashley goes for an interview at FPE, which is a gear rental place. He meets a muttonchopped guy named John. Ashley explains that his most recent job was as a boy band member, and then says that John may or may not heard of O-Town. Looking at John, I wonder which would be worse. John seems to be wearing a Journey shirt, and also a winter cap. He explains that Ashley would be selling gear to bands at shows. Ashley says that he loves working with people. Ha! He adds that he's also worked at cash registers. They talk a bit more, and Ashley asks about salary. John says that, given Ashley's lack of skills, he would probably get $10 an hour working about ten hours a week. This, of course, would equal less than $8,000 a year, which is not going to help them put down the deposit for this house today, is it?
