Bobby finally gets a great scene. As music begins to play (Nick Drake's "Road"), Bobby walks up a city street outside a home, pacing. He arrives at his teacher's home and sits by her bed. No dialogue. All we hear is the song playing over Bobby putting on his gloves and administering the morphine. The lyrics are:
You can say the sun is shining if you really want to
I can see the moon and it seems so clear
You can take the road that takes you to the stars now
I can take a road that'll see me through
I can take a road that'll see me through. You can take a road that takes you to the stars now
I can take a road that'll see me through
I can take a road that'll see me through
I can take a road that'll see me through.
The teacher looks to her husband, who watches her, wringing his hands. Bobby inserts the needle into her hand. She smiles and tilts her head. Her husband watches. Each shot slowly pans from Bobby to the teacher to her husband. She looks peaceful, her eyes beginning to close. She smiles at Bobby. He blinks, packs up his kit, and quickly leaves without saying a word. We pan back to her husband as he sits next to the woman and their dog. She rests her head on a cushion and begins to drift away. Outside, Bobby walks toward the camera, holding back tears. The song's last strains end as we fade out.
Next week: Heathen recaps next week's episode, about an underground manhunt where there's a Mexican standoff and folks trapped. Action episode, anyone?
