Sarah is in her apartment, tidying up and throwing out the dead roses whose sender was never named in the last ep. Scraggle, sitting on a chair with a book, asks, "Need any help with that?" With what, exactly? Throwing out dead roses? Sarah doesn't answer him. Scraggle asks if she's okay. Sarah answers that it's just been a bad day and that the recording career was "just a flimsy long shot." Scraggle tells her that one of the long shots will pay off someday. Sarah asks permission to move Scraggle's bag and notices that the name tag isn't his name. She asks, "Hey, who's Jessica? 'Jessica Colier,' who's that?" This just seems to be her day to probe into everyone's private lives. Scraggle answers, "Nobody." Sarah goes on, "'Nobody'? Your name and her name are on the same bag." Scraggle grunts, "Yeah, so?" Sarah persists, not taking the hint, "Was she your girlfriend or something? Did you used to live in the West Village? Well, that's obviously a yes, Maguire, so what happened to this woman?" Scraggle finally says, "Could you cut it out with all the questions?" Sarah asks (getting tearful), "Why do you have to be such a mystery? It's like you're not even here. I'm just trying to make some sort of connection." Scraggle says he's not interested in making connections at this time, and Sarah tells him that's not a good answer. I guess a "good answer" would be everyone spilling their guts to a dinner-heavy-tummy-tee-wearing-chick who seems to feel she has right to the information. "Why are you alone, Maguire? 'Cause I know why I'm alone. [Oh, we're going to talk about you? Oh, goody.] I don't have a choice. I can't go home because then that defeats the whole purpose of what I'm doing here. But why are you alone? Why aren't you with that Jessica person? Where's your family, why don't you have a place to go on Thanksgiving?" Scraggle says, "It's 'cause I like it that way." Sarah doesn't believe this and tells him so. Scraggle asks, "Based on what?" Sarah answers, "Immediate personal experience." Sarah goes on to say that this is the first time she's ever been alone and that the holidays make it worse and that she's lonely. Scraggle is silent. Sarah says, "I'm standing right here in front of you and I'm really lonely." Scraggle still says nothing, so Sarah tearfully bids him goodnight and goes to her room. Maybe he would have said something if she had taken off her shirt? ["I know what I'd have said." -- Sars]
