Platypus is at the book-signing and she sees Sling Fling. She walks up to him, and he's a bit shocked and shifty-acting. "Romy, what are you --" he stammers. Platypus explains that she heard about the book and thought it was "right up [his] alley, but damn, you beat me to it." Sling Fling tries to interrupt but Platypus barrels along: "Now I'll have to come up with some other adorable see-how-well-I-pay-attention-to-you kind of gift. Any ideas?" Sling Fling tells her it's a bad time and could they just hook up later as planned, all the while looking frantically about. How predictable is this next scene? A woman walks up to Sling Fling and hands him a glass of wine: "They only had white. I ran into Fred Travis, who said, 'Thank you very much for savaging Doug Arnell's play,' so I guess he and Doug have officially broken up. [And TOYL condescendingly bestows another clumsy nod to the gay community by bringing them up only in drama-related scenarios. Because that's all homosexual people do in New York, dontcha know: write or direct plays and teach dance class.] Hello." The woman notices Platypus standing in front of them with her beak gaping open. "Hi, I'm Romy," Platypus says brightly. Sling Fling rushes to introduce Platypus to Nancy, "Romy was in the emergency room when I was getting my cast on --" "You're the nurse," proclaims Nancy. Platypus is confused and starts to explain that she was in the emergency room for reasons other than picking up married men. Nancy explains what she meant: "No, I mean, I think I almost cast you as the nurse in that aspirin commercial. Yeah, yeah, the client decided to go ethnic but you were very good." Platypus thanks her. "Did you know she was an actress, honey?" Nancy asks Honey the Sling Fling, who stammers that he didn't. Nancy says it's funny, both of them meeting Platypus under such different circumstances: "Small world, huh?" Platypus gives a sickly smile and says, "Tiny," and walks away after giving Sling Fling a wounded look. Yeah, like that's not going to raise questions between man and wife.
