Sarah is at Jody, delivering the last of the presents to Audrey. Audrey gives her a present to thank her for all her help: "Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukah or happy religious observance of your choice. For a job well done, open it!" Is anyone else surprised that Audrey gives her the coat they saw in the window? I have never been more surprised by such a crafty plot twist in my life. Sarah, of course, is thrilled and makes a big show of saying that she can't accept it because "it's like twelve hundred dollars." Audrey responds, "Hey, you're looking a gift horse in the mouth; besides, Jody's paying for it!" Yes, and Audrey is getting fired when all the bills arrive.

Joss is complaining to Scraggle about her mother's criticisms. Scraggle says that her mother has a point about the building needing to be condemned. Joss gives him a look and continues, "She couldn't say something nice, no, just straight-up disapproval. And that tone, I hate that tone." Scraggle agrees, "Everybody hates that tone." Joss goes on, "She's still mad at me for not doing the whole pre-med thing. She's never going to let that go." Scraggle obviously doesn't know that much about the friend he sometimes sleeps with, because he asks, "I didn't know you did that. You were going to be a doctor?" Joss explains that it was only because her mother wanted her to do it, and that one day she realized she really didn't care enough about it, so she got out of it, "and isn't it better to stop instead of ending up a doctor who doesn't give a damn just so my mother has something to brag about?" Scraggle tells her that she did the smart thing. Joss goes on to say that her mother called her a stereotype, and that all her parents care about is making money because that's how they measure success, and then Joss utters the sentiment that I have heard in way too many of these shows: "And I'm happy, I really am. I thought that's what parents are supposed to want for their kids."
