The other two teams must now be sent in to receive their judgment. Someone helpfully shouts, "Smile with your eyes!" as the teams head off for elimination. Look, lady, there is no Miss Congeniality in this show, so button it. Up first is Team Hansel and Gretel who have to answer for their severe lack of gingerbread. Melissa tries to throw Lina under the bus for having a vision of cake instead of gingerbread, because I guess those are different things? The team and the judges agree that the presentation wasn't refined enough, but Lina refuses to take the blame, especially when Melissa's dessert was texturally uninteresting and her attitude a real downer. However the judges didn't like Lina's seltzer or the other guy's dehydrated smoked pineapple bits. Losers! Or as Dannielle explained it, "We were lost in the forest ...of flavors!" Someone freeze dry her and give me the flavor profile of her head, please.
Over on Team Jack and the Beanstalk, Craig takes one for the team and confesses that he overstated his skill set and that his teammates rescued them from the brink of disaster. Johnny clucks disapprovingly. Gail then loudly bemoans the overwhelming ginger flavor and the hazelnut headiness in the two desserts. In short, so much unbalanced-ness makes Gail unbalanced. The teams are sent off to the stew room while the judges weigh their futures. As the contestants do the obligatory stewing, Craig's inexperience and Lina's cake catastrophe are pitted against each other. At last the judges make their decision: It's Lina's turn to go. Everyone makes sorrowful noises and pretends that they care that a stranger was eliminated. Lina makes the obligatory "she threw me under the bus" comments on her way out the door. And thus begins the second season of "Top Chef: Just Desserts."
