Tim Love starts with 3 ½ stars and gets another 3 from the diners for 6 ½ stars. Oselow and Greene both give him 2 ½ stars and Rayner gives him 3 stars for a total of 14 ½ stars and the lead. Kelly Choi orders Michael Schlow to return to the kitchen and pack knives; after hugging all of the other chefs, he does.
Christopher Lee started with 3 ½ stars and got another 4 from the diners for a total of 7 ½ stars. Greene and Rayner give him 4 stars each, and Oselow goes with 3 ½ stars, so Christopher ends up with 19 stars. So now he has the lead, and Tim Love is sent back to the kitchen.
And finally, Hubert Keller started with 5 stars, and got another 4 stars from the diners, so he's got 9 stars. Rayner gives him 3 ½ stars, and Greene and Oselow each give him 4 stars. That gives him 20 ½ stars, so he's this week's winner, and will be one of six chefs in the Champions Round. His charity will get $10,000, and the other chef's charities will also get a donation, although the amount is not specified, so it must not be much. Backstage, the other chefs cheer for Hubert, and he says that he knows that he'll be starting from scratch when he returns for the finals. Christopher Lee enjoyed seeing what the Top Chef contestants have to go through. I wish Colicchio was competing. That would be awesome. Michael Schlow says that it was humbling, which most chefs need from time to time. Tim Love thought it was great to be challenged, but he's ready to head home. So that was the first episode! Interesting concept, but not a whole lot of drama. Unless you count the freezer/fridge mix-up. I'm hoping some big egos will create more drama in the future!
