Hildi asks her team to finish the circles, saying they still have to hang the curtains and the new blinds. Once they've finished painting, they have to clear out the room completely so they can put the carpet down. They admire the newly repaired wall.
Gerald and Ann apply the thin strip of molding to the ceiling. Gerald and Laurie joke about how cool he looks in his safety glasses. Ann says it's his moment. Gerald: "Hey, I told you I was a star." Ann: "Pee-wee's Big Adventure?" Gerald: "Watch out, now!" Ann and Laurie laugh. Gerald: "Watch out!'
After the commercial, Gerald and Ann are fitting the closet doors in when suddenly there's a crash and Laurie squeals. She's dropped the glass shade of the light fixture she was about to install. Ann and Gerald are all, "Oh, no." Laurie complains that it's broken into five hundred pieces...on carpet.
Hildi's in Sewing World with MPDP. She's showing MPDP the circle-print slipcovers she's making for the upholstered part of the old chairs. MPDP inquires as to whether there's any other fabric going in the room. Hildi says the sofa is going to be slipcovered in a coordinating "real pale khaki." MPDP seems relieved to hear that there's a solid colour somewhere in the room.
Ann says it was a nice light. Laurie, rubbing her temples, says she did get it locally. Ann replies brightly, "So that means we can replace it!" Laurie: "Mm-hmm...." Apparently it was somewhat expensive. Laurie goes to get a broom, as she mutters, "I can't believe I just did that."
MPDP rambles that even though there's a lot of pattern going on, she still thinks it's going to be a pretty calm room, because the colours are so subdued. Hildi's in her mad sewing mode. Whenever Hildi's concentrating on sewing or painting or anything, really, I always imagine she doesn't hear anything MPDP is saying; she just hears this vague buzzing in the background, like a fly trapped behind some heavy curtains. Turns out Hildi is listening this time, though, and says, "You know, a lot of times people think they want colour. Well -- because it stimulates their mind, but the pattern actually does the same thing. This pattern, hopefully, will..." Or it will give them a headache -- one or the other. MPDP says they definitely want minds stimulated, because it's a classroom.
