Hildi says she bought high gloss paint, because she really wanted "the effect with the lights." They're installing a track light. Now that she sees the condition of the walls, she realizes high gloss paint wasn't such a hot idea. Huh -- less than pristine walls in an old house. Who'd have thunk it? In the background, you can see they've painted the name "Lee" under the crown. Hildi decides, "It is what it is...and it'll work." She really believes that by declaring something, it makes it so. I think I'll see if that works for me. I'll just go around telling everyone my mortgage is paid off.
Gabe and Kia assemble some cabinets from IKEA. Kia has unfastened the sleeves part of her jumpsuit and tied them around her waist. I can't decide if this is an improvement over the original look. Frink: "Kia's getup looks like something you'd wear underneath a bomb disposal outfit." She asks Gabe what he thinks of the room so far. He says it's almost too tasteful. Kia is just as alarmed as everybody else on the planet to hear herself accused of this. Gabe thinks it's too safe and isn't sure what Kia's vision is for the room. Dude, you're probably better off in the dark. She wants it to "feel like spicy music." She adds, "Not as if that told you anything." My God, the hour is late, but could she be developing a modicum of self-awareness? Of cluefulness? I can't get my hopes up. Gabe says that right now the room is like "India meets Santa Fe." I know who I'm betting on in that dustup. Kia seems puzzled by Gabe's perception of the room. Personally, I'm just puzzled by Gabe. "Too tasteful"?
MPDP comes hooting into the room Amy and Michael are painting. It's such an intense dark Barbie pink I don't even think Elle Woods could handle it. MPDP: "It's pink!" They argue that it's purple. Michael: "Because I said I wasn't going to do anything in pink, so I have to call this purple." Doug would love this guy. Michael explains that they made a "no pink" pact. I love these homeowner pacts. They're worth about as much as a three-dollar bill. Oh God, they're painting the trim the same colour. Well, why not? Hildi likes to obliterate architectural detail wherever she finds it. They argue about pink and purple and finally settle on calling it "fuchsia."
Kia's showing Lee some fugly diner bench seat. It seems to be varnished wood with ugly brownish red padding on the back. It's two-sided and has a brass rail on top. They're going to cut off the back. Kia says they're going to cover the seat with vinyl and wrap the back in fabric. As she drones on, Frink suddenly loses it and starts saying "Shut up" over and over again. I'm surprised. I thought I'd go into that mode long before he did.
