Hildi shows Michael some wine-coloured velvet they're using for the curtains and to upholster a chair. Then she shows him the chair frame, which has to be painted, and sits in place and swivels. That's because you can't have a chair on wheels tearing around on a foam floor. See? She's not crazy! She thinks of everything. Then she shows him the pink python-printed vinyl. Hildi, Marc Bolan called from 1973 and he wants his sheets back. Michael thinks it's the "coolest thing yet."
Kia and her team are attaching a big shiny piece of sheet metal to the wall behind the stove. She explains to MPDP, who's applying the adhesive to the back, that it's a metal backsplash. She peels up the protective plastic a bit to show her the "coppery colour" underneath. Kia tells MPDP to apply the adhesive to the wall in a zigzag fashion. MPDP complies, undulating her booty in concert and making "woo-woo" sound effects to go with it. Kia: "Ah, she turns everything into a dance." MPDP grins: "Yeah, you know! Hey, if I can shake my booty and have some fun...that's how I make home improvement fun!" Me: "Life is just one big salsa dance to her." Frink: "There are worse attitudes to have." Me: "Yeah, whatthefuckever."
Michael gets the "sewing is just like driving" lecture from Hildi. That must be why I can't do either. Seriously, there are a few standard sequences we never need to see again on this show: this is one. The "how to stuff a pillow" sequence is another. "Don't be scared of the nail gun/electric stapler" is another one. Michael decides that sewing is easy.
Amy helps Amy Wynn with the shelves for the desk unit. Amy's holding the hammer way too high; she's choking the handle right up under the head of the hammer. Amy Wynn teaches her how to hold it, much farther down, so that there's more swing and therefore more power. Frink grumbles: "Basic physics." He's always disappointed when people don't know basic physics. I think he takes it personally or something. I just noticed Amy's wearing her band URL t-shirt too. Amy tries it the way Amy Wynn's showed her and finds it much easier.
Kia and her team finish applying the metal and press it all over with a roller to make sure it's evenly adhered. MPDP asks how many places the metal's going. Kia dejectedly says it's just going here. MPDP: "We're just sticking a metal sheet just somewhere?" She so does not like Kia. At the very least, she doesn't think anything of Kia's design abilities. Kia says it's a backsplash. MPDP wonders about the backsplash areas in the rest of the room. Kia points out that the area above the sink has a window there, and the new countertop has its own backsplash. MPDP seems surprised to hear of a new counter.
