Chris explains to Betsy that he's painting some knockdown furniture, probably from IKEA, that he and Vern assembled earlier. I can't tell what it is because I can only see the back. He explains that they're going to have doors on them and will flank the piece she's painting.
Gen and Bill start painting the white stripe around the room. She explains that there will be a fat black stripe in the middle of it. Like the Flyers' logo, without the big P.
Vern and Chris work on building a lounge/daybed-type thing for the living room, to replace some of the overly formal seating that was in there.
Amy Wynn's ready to start installing the platform, while Gen jumps around and waxes on about how cool it is. Amy Wynn says that she would have loved this as a kid.
Vern and Chris make rectangular doughnuts out of wood. Or something.
Gen says that the platform area will feel like a special nook instead of just an extension of the room.
Chris is still diggin' the nail gun. Man, me too. I want one of those. I think I've paid my manual-labour dues. Vern suggests that Chris could get one for Father's Day. Chris admires Vern's thinking.
Gen and Becky hold wood in place while Amy Wynn fastens it. The battery on Amy Wynn's cordless screwdriver dies, and she asks, "But...who's the most prepared carpenter in the world?" She reaches for her backup battery as Gen says, "Ty!" Amy Wynn feigns extreme insult and gets up as though she's going to walk out. Gen giggles and shouts, "I was just kidding!"
Vern and Betsy manouevre a 7' x 3' piece of particleboard onto a thick piece of foam, under which they've got the upholstery fabric lying loosely. They start pulling the fabric into place to fasten it.
Gen sucks up to Amy Wynn as Wynn finishes fastening the corner of the platform. Gen remarks that the platform is still level, and that that's good for Trading Spaces. Amy Wynn: "That's because you have Ty working for you too often." Burn! I can't wait for the big Trading Spaces exposé someday. That should be a hoot. Gen howls and "mrrow"s and says, "It's getting saucy in here!"
Vern attaches the fabric to the daybed seat as Betsy mostly watches. He says that they're going to do a bolster for the seat, too.
Amy Wynn and Bill lay a piece of chipboard on the platform as Gen mocks it, saying, "That's a good-looking piece of wood. That's like the Spam of wood." It totally is. She's carrying a big roll of carpet and drags it along with her as she gets up and dances on the platform. Amy Wynn joins in.
