Opposite the end of the bed is the old chest of drawers, with the new TV box (sorry, Ty) on top. The frame is painted white; the doors and drawers are a strong violet colour that I personally think clashes with the walls. Ty's tried to match the wavy footprint of the bottom part of the piece, and he hasn't done too bad a job of it, but I still think the proportions of the piece are off. It looks top-heavy and awkward. On the wall on each side of the cabinet are some kind of...sticks, for lack of a better word, arranged to look like a big pair of sketchy parentheses bracketing the unit. It looks absurd and arbitrary. Between the chest and the bed is a navy blue rug that looks like it has a very small but ornate pattern on it. There are pillows in yet more fabrics scattered around here and there on the floor. In yet another corner is their dresser and mirror. Above it all: ah yes, the muntry cades ceiling fan. This might be the least Indian thing I've ever seen. Even if you forget all about the Indian/India during the Colonial period blather, and just evaluate it on the basis of the promised richness and romance and smokiness and what-have-you, I think it's still a failure. There are just too many colours (bluish purple, violet, Barney purple, wine, burgundy, fuchsia, white, grey, silver, gold, white, navy, brown, and possibly red) and they're clumsily combined. The stencilling on the valances looks off-centre and inconsistently applied. That fugly mess of fabric over the headboard is a dead loss and should be ripped down and given a decent burial at the earliest opportunity. The nightstands are too teensy to be very functional, and offer no storage in their bases, either. The less said about the bedding and cushions, the better. The "art" is dreadful. Waste of money. The balance of light and dark in this room is all off and you don't know where to look. The headboard should be a natural focal point but it's such a disaster that the eye recoils. The furniture is still as random and unrelated as ever, and the TV cabinet isn't an improvement. (At least the TV's in an appropriate place.) Gah. I don't know how he managed to take so many colours I like or love and make them into this mess but the whole effect is cheesy, disjointed, and disappointing.
