Frank is starting to prime Gayla's "hideous green" (Frank's words) countertop and backsplash. I've always been skeptical about painting such things, but Wing and Glark had it done in their kitchen and bathroom, and it came out really well, so I'm considering it for our kitchen counter, at least until we can afford to redo the kitchen completely. ["Hee! I feel the same way about my kitchen, and my rationale is also, 'Well, Wing and Glark did it, and theirs looks cool.' They are such trendsetters." -- Kim] ["That did turn out pretty well, I have to say. We didn't physically do it, though." -- Wing Chun] Mind you, I have no intention of carrying on in the scary manner Frank's about to. Frank says they're going to do a stone finish on the countertop. When he says this, I'm visualizing a faux granite-type finish of some sort; something that's meant to look like the texture of stone. I should have known better. They all start priming.
Cut to Gen and Amy putting up crown molding, and hoisting a piece aloft which meets up perfectly with the piece to which it connects on a corner. Gen hollers, "Nice!" MPDP wanders over and announces they've got "girl power on this episode." Somehow, I don't feel Frank would be insulted. MPDP says Amy Wynn is the leader. They high-five. Gen pretends to object to Amy Wynn being the leader. As MPDP turns around, I see she's got an American flag on the back of her sweatshirt, too, although it's all reversed, with blue and white stripes and a red field behind the stars. MPDP and Gen enthuse about the molding.
Blue team, priming like crazy. Carla runs in to where Paige is painting, and complains that Frank won't let her in. Frank chides her, saying she's rapidly becoming the least popular person in the room. He says they've got to move it, since time's running out, and it's the closest he's ever going to be to the limits on time and budget. Hello? Where's the money, Frank?
MPDP tells Gayla, who's painting the crown molding, that her friends are going to have to do hours and hours of homework, and that they're probably not even going to be able to go to sleep. Gayla and Andrea look genuinely concerned and aggrieved. Gayla jokes that she's gonna cry now.
Frank is demonstrating the fauxifying procedure for the countertops. It utilizes these sort of pinky-sand colours.
Gen gives her team their homework; Gayla pretends not to understand or know who Gen is.
Cut to Frank hauling in a fan; Carla's on her knees wiping the floor with a rag. Frank says the deglosser she's just put on the floor will help them; they're going to prime and paint the floor. Frank explains that the way they apply the paint on top of the primer will create tiles, leaving the primer as sort of a grout.
