Tubey Awards 2008: Most Memorable TV Moments

While the new TV season is just getting underway, we here at TWoP have taken a look back at the past year in television. Reflecting upon some of the scenes, episodes and moments that we just can't get out of our heads. Look below as we take a short trip down memory lane.

Kavanaugh Is Smirking Somewhere...
The Shield, "Spanish Practices," June 5, 2007
Having failed, for once, to find an angle he can exploit, Vic Mackey turns up at his review board hearing -- his last chance to avoid forced retirement -- and finds his ex-wife and kids there to support him (after they've recovered from an abduction, because it wouldn't be The Shield unless Shane did something profoundly stupid). Vic claims he has a plan and cuddles his kids sweetly for a second before he's called inside. There's a second to anticipate: Will he take Aceveda's advice and use his children's illness to garner sympathy? Is he going to try to win the board over with an eloquent defense? Will he flip out and beat someone up? Is he going to pull out some trump card, some detail from a plot thread that we've forgotten? Here's what he does: he gives the woman calling him his best contemptuous "fuck you" glare, and then turns and walks out of the building. You know he wants to believe that this is a moment of triumph, that he's rejecting the system for daring to judge him, but the truth is that he rejected the system a long time ago, and now he can't prevent the system from returning the favor. It's a perfect Vic moment -- it looks like heroic rebellion until you remember just who the hero is, and what exactly he's rebelling against. -- Strega

Burn Baby Burn
Eureka, "Phoenix Rising, July 10, 2007
After an eclipse, people spontaneously combust. Sizzling Colin Ferguson's Jack Carter is burning too -- for Allison, and their future marital bliss he had to sacrifice when he stopped a dangerous, alternate timeline. Henry's rage still flares at the loss of his beloved Kim. Stark loses his cool when he loses the top spot at Global to Allison, and she gets steamed when he implies she's stabbed him in the back.

Starks spikes a fever; the regulars rescue him and solve the mystery. He and Allison seem to be on the verge of rekindling their romance, which chars Jack's ass. Jack apologizes to Henry for accusing him of any involvement in the latest deaths, and wants to resume their friendship, which has been rocky ever since Jack had to stop Henry from saving Kim, in order to save the world. Henry says they both need to forget, and voila, he has just the magical... er... scientific device to wipe their whole alternative future from both their minds. Jack is hesitant, but Henry's not, and mind-wipes his friend without consent. Once he's alone, Henry smashes the gizmo with a hammer and vows to never forget.
